Random House N.Y. Highland Thirst A1059775732
New York Times bestselling authors Hannah Howell and Lynsay Sands combine talents in this thrilling historical romance. Set in the rugged Scottish Highlands, here is the spellbinding tale of two men destined to live by night with a hunger only the blood of Outsiders can quench--and a passion only two extraordinary women can satisfy... Cousins Heming MacNachton and Tearlach MacAdie are bound by the same blood, the same ancient curse, and now the same quest: to search out the enemies of their clan--hunters who consider them soulless demons and intend to exterminate them. But no sooner have Heming and Tearlach begun than they are drugged, separated, and taken captive. One is brought deep into the borderlands of Scotland, the other, in the dreary depths of Northern England. Brona Kerr and Lady Lucy Blytheswood are irresistibly drawn to the mysterious prisoners. Together, the women resolve to save them. In doing so, they will safeguard the clan's future and their own. Now Brona and Lucy must cross perilous terrain to fight for their lives--and for the men with whom they discover an eternal passion they never imagined...

Double 9 Books LLP The House on the Borderland A1068062953
British fantasy author William Hope Hodgson wrote the supernatural horror book The House on the Borderland in 1908. The book is a hallucinogenic description of a recluse's stay in a rural location and his encounters with paranormal beings and ethereal realms. Two men are taken aback when they come upon a peculiar abyss while on a two-week fishing trip in secluded western Ireland. They discover ruins and a journal buried in them on a rock spur above this hole. They read the journal. The journal's author describes himself as an elderly guy who has long resided in a historic building. A few months later, awful man-sized monsters with dead-white skin attack the House after emerging from a nearby Pit. Strong and intelligent, the Swine-Things are unable to enter; after a night and day during which the Recluse kills several of them, they vanish. He waits several days before leaving the House with Pepper to seek the previous gardens outside because he is scared of the dangerous monsters. The story closes with the guy in his study seeing the beast enter the Cellar through the trap door. After recovering from reading the journal, the two guys resume fishing without attempting to return to the terrifying abyss.
A nocturnal drift through the margins of Madrid-where lost souls cross paths with the surreal, and the city itself becomes a character. In this stark, luminous novel, Esther García Llovet returns to the shadows of the Spanish capital to trace the uneasy reunion of Nikki and Sánchez, two former lovers bound by shared history and mutual failure. She has returned from the borderlands of Gibraltar, where she dealt contraband. He, a man seemingly pursued by bad luck, accepts her offer out of desperation: help deliver a greyhound named Cromwell to a woman deep in the racing underworld. What follows is a long night's descent through a Madrid untouched by tourism or nostalgia-a landscape of bingo halls, half-lit highways, silent gas stations, and after-hours bars that seem suspended in time. Here, even the fantastical feels plausible: a performance artist devours raw deer meat in the forest, while unspoken debts and spectral memories surface with the clarity only darkness allows. With clipped, exacting prose and dialogue that cuts like broken glass, García Llovet sketches a world that is both brutal and strangely tender-a Madrid of the mind, where the borders between absurdity, danger, and beauty dissolve. A singular voice in contemporary Spanish fiction, Sánchez confirms García Llovet as a master chronicler of urban estrangement and nocturnal grace.
This book sets out to analyse for the very first time a selection of works by international contemporary artists that reference the German-Polish border, and to draw attention to artworks created between 1990 and the early 2020s. The projects explored reference narratives of expulsion and the fluid, spectral and aesthetic nature of borders through sensory and somaesthetic perception. They examine the historical shifts of that border from the angle of changing political and societal contexts, lost homelands, expulsion of people and new political orders. The book is the product of research in the field at the German-Polish border, interviews with artists, visits to their studios, and archival work. It employs a transdisciplinary toolbox, combining methods from art history, border (art) studies, migration studies, memory studies, geopoetics, limotrophy and more. The volume questions the double figure of dividing and sharing that finds expression in the German word "eine (Grenze) teilen", which means either to divide or to share a border: separation by a shared border and shared historical experience, regarded from two, often dissimilar perspectives. The study focuses on artistic projects ranging from photography to installation art and artistic methods from mapping to re-enacting, which address the issue of the borderland as a dynamic transition space.

A culinary journey along the Mexican American border, telling the story of its intertwined cultures and communities with more than 100 vibrant, flavor-packed recipes from Top Chef star, Iron Chef Mexico finalist, and Tijuana-San Diego border kid Claudette Zepeda. The Mexican American border has been an inflamed political focal point within the US; at the same time, Mexican food has long been the most popular “ethnic” cuisine in America. A child of the border herself, Claudette Zepeda grew up in both California and Mexico and sees the border as a vibrant, vital, and unique cultural and culinary place. A gifted storyteller and chef, Claudette’s recipes and ruminations humanize border culture through 100 accessible and beloved dishes such as: • Coahuila’s Esquites (Street Corn) • Las Calandrias Caballitos (Chicken Sopes) • Arroz Poblano (Poblano Pepper Creamy Rice) • Camarones al Ajillo (Baja Style Garlic Shrimp) • Capirotada (Bread Pudding) This is a story of a personal and culinary identity that formed betwixt two cultures, told through recipes, anecdotes, and an irreverent sense of humor. Borderlands details the Mexican dishes Claudette grew up eating and loves, their American counterparts, and how the fluidity and flexibility between the two nations shows us a way of being in the world. With her sophisticated, first-hand perspective of the Mexican American border, immigration, and the feet-in-many-worlds attitude of Border Kid culture, Claudette shines a human light on the imaginary line stretching from California through Texas and shows how vital this place is in American culture.

'See!...The woods are alive! Already the Great Ones are there, and the dance will soon begin! The salve is here! Anoint yourself and come!' One of the greatest writers of the strange and weird, Algernon Blackwood evolved from a teller of ghost stories to a pioneering master of such emergent fictional modes as cosmic horror and nature Gothic. In tales whose settings range from the eerie North Woods of Canada to the mysterious sands of the Egyptian desert, Blackwood blurs the boundaries between human and nonhuman, living and dead, beckoning the reader into strange borderlands where alien forces lurk, waiting for the chance to break through into our world. This new selection of Blackwood's shorter fiction constitutes the most comprehensive critical edition of his work to date. Included here are such undisputed classics as 'The Wendigo', 'The Willows', and 'Ancient Sorceries', as well as two superbly unsettling novellas, 'The Man Whom the Trees Loved' and 'A Descent into Egypt', and ten other stories short and long, drawn from collections spanning Blackwood's long writing career. Aaron Worth's introduction and notes situate these tales in the context of Blackwood's own upbringing in an evangelical Victorian household, as well as in relation to such topics as late-imperial British history and the emergence of modern ecological thought. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.

Globland Books Dva meseca u jugoslovenskom Sibiru A1076892666
----- A searing witness account from one of Serbia's foremost intellectuals. In 1920, after his sharp political editorials in the independent daily Progres drew the ire of the authorities, Dragiša Vasi¿ was "disciplined" with a two-month posting to the lawless borderland between the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes and Albania-amid the suppression of the Albanian uprising. He would later call it his "Yugoslav Siberia." What he found there was not order but a bleak mosaic of conscripts' hardship, predatory officials, routine violence, and a state apparatus willing to look away. Back from the frontier, Vasi¿ published his reports in Republika and, in 1921, gathered them into this documentary-literary book. The prose is lean and exact, patriotic without illusions: loyal to people rather than to power, merciless toward corruption, and unsparing even of the author himself. Through bitter, unforgettable scenes-soldiers in mud, bribed administrators, the uneasy traffic with käak insurgents-Vasi¿ uncovers the dark underside of the postwar order and asks what justice, truth, and responsibility might still mean at the edges of a young state.
The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine! With Robert Jordan's untimely passing in 2007, Brandon Sanderson, the New York Times bestselling author of the Mistborn novels and the Stormlight Archive, was chosen by Jordan's editor-his wife, Harriet McDougal-to complete the final volume in The Wheel of Time®, later expanded to three books. In Towers of Midnight, the thirteenth novel in Jordan's #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, the Last Battle has truly begun. The seals on the Dark One's prison are crumbling. The Pattern itself is unraveling, and the armies of the Shadow have begun to boil out of the Blight. The sun has begun to set upon the Third Age. And trials by fire await those fighting against the darkness that encroaches from their enemies-and within themselves... Perrin Aybara is now hunted by specters from his past: Whitecloaks, a slayer of wolves, and the responsibilities of leadership. All the while, an unseen foe is slowly pulling a noose tight around his neck. To prevail, he must seek answers in Tel'aran'rhiod and find a way-at long last-to master the wolf within him or lose himself to it forever. Mat Cauthon must once again face the creatures beyond the stone gateways, the Aelfinn and the Eelfinn. He had hoped that his last confrontation with them would be the end of it, but the Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills. The Tower of Ghenjei awaits, and its secrets will reveal the fate of a friend long lost. Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn, arrives at the White Tower with a startling revelation for Egwene al'Vere. Fearful for his sanity, Egwene summons the rulers of the Borderlands to stand against him-knowing the fate of the world rests in their hands.
