Seit 1961 komponierte er - sein Werk umspannt über 400 Filmmusiken und 100 Klassische Stücke. Für Experten gilt er als wichtiger Mittler zwischen klassischer Musik und Populärkultur. Dieses Konzert aus dem Jahr 2004 mit dem Münchner Rundfunkorchester ist eine der wenigen Aufnahmen von Morricone bei dem er seine eigenen Stücke dirigiert, Regie führte bei dieser Konzertaufnahme Giovanni Morricone Inklusive Filmausschnitten aus Zwei glorreiche Halunken, Cinema Paradiso und Die Tartarenwüste.
