The world is currently witnessing an Arctic Scramble as the major powers compete to demarcate and occupy Arctic territory. The region is known to be home to large gas and oil reserves, and its position at the top of the globe holds significant trading and military advantages. Yet the territorial boundaries of the region remain ill-defined and Russia, under the increasingly bold foreign policy of Vladimir Putin, has emerged as a forceful power in the region. Geir Hønneland investigates the political contexts and international tensions surrounding Russia s actions, focusing especially on the disputes which have emerged in the Barents Sea, where European and Russian interests compete directly. Skillfully delineating Russian policy in the region, and analyzing the mineral and environmental consequences of the recent treaty agreements, Russia and the Arctic is a crucial addition to our understanding of contemporary International Relations concerning the Polar North. This new updated edition takes into account Russia's recent moves in the Arctic region, and the development of the Arctic council.

GRIN The Impact of Cultural Values and Bounded Rationality on Investment Decisions
Masterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich BWL - Investition und Finanzierung, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (University of Groningen - Newcastle University), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: This thesis investigates cultural and cognitive behavioural determinants of Home Bias through individual and macro level regressions. Cultural dimensions of Project GLOBE provide the basis for the development of a relational model and the hypotheses. Through theorising this link, this thesis shows that culture has an influence specifically on investment choices, but in a wider sense on all economic choices humans undertake. The knowledge of those influences helps business managers in conducting international business by analysing local demand more accurately and gaining competitive advantages through knowledge. Although research has been conducted in this field, no approach on culture and Home Bias has aimed at incorporating all GLOBE dimensions in one model or analysed Home Bias outside of fund levels and examined the individual level. This thesis fills the gap in the literature and thereby contributes to crosscultural research. The analysis finds that on an individual level, power distance is the only significant cultural determinant of Home Bias. The macro levels yields assertiveness, performance orientation and gender egalitarianism as significant results, depending on the regression model. The significance of the findings is low and inconsistent in dimensions, which calls for better quantification models of cultural value traits in regard to economic decisions.

One Media iP Group Secret Societies: Control and Manipulation A1069826232
This audiobook has been recorded using Text to speech (TTS). From the dawn of mankind there have been secret societies. Groups of men and women coming together to gain and maintain power for themselves. As populations grew so too did the power and the need to be extremely creative in methods of control. Over the centuries there have been a few elite brotherhoods that have developed incredibly subtle and complex ways to manipulate the people. They have invented religions and mysteries; they have seeded revolution and started wars. Literature, plays, fables, movies, games, belief systems and the internet are all weapons in their growing armoury. In this book we will explain how these secret societies manipulate mankind. We will delve into the psychology they use to control the way we buy, vote and believe. Everything we do and think is created for us. Even if we believe we are free. And all of this began many thousands of years ago when they created the religions of the globe. The exact same processes used to entice people to believe are now used to manipulate us. But more than that, we will reveal the people behind the creation of Christianity, Islam and more and the hidden secrets that they guard to this day. From Jesus to Buddha, from Muhammad to Zoroaster, the patterns are the same because they were all created by the same elite group. They have made history and rewritten it. They hide in plain sight. We have worshipped them from afar. They are our gods, leaders, priests and revolutionaries. They are the secret societies of the globe and this is their story.

The "masterfully chilling" novel that inspired the hit AMC series (Entertainment Weekly). The men on board the HMS Terror — part of the 1845 Franklin Expedition, the first steam-powered vessels ever to search for the legendary Northwest Passage — are entering a second summer in the Arctic Circle without a thaw, stranded in a nightmarish landscape of encroaching ice and darkness. Endlessly cold, they struggle to survive with poisonous rations, a dwindling coal supply, and ships buckling in the grip of crushing ice. But their real enemy is even more terrifying. There is something out there in the frigid darkness: an unseen predator stalking their ship, a monstrous terror clawing to get in. “The best and most unusual historical novel I have read in years.” —Katherine A. 'Essential reading for anyone trying to understand where the next influence operation is being built' ELIOT HIGGINS, founder of Bellingcat 'Revelatory . . . will fundamentally change how you understand modern power' KELLY CLANCY, author of Playing with Reality __________________________________ In Power Play , leading game industry expert George E. Osborn reveals how video games - the world's largest entertainment medium - are being used by autocrats, populists and violent extremists to influence the real world around us. Video games are the world's largest entertainment medium. They are played by billions of people of all ages every year, generating hundreds of billions of dollars in revenue. But they are more than an entertainment product. They connect people across the globe, creating digital third places where people talk, share ideas and build identities, fostering diverse communities capable of dominating the digital discourse now shaping our reality. While democracies continue to underestimate the potential for influence in this space, others have seized the opportunity to control, co-opt or collaborate with video game communities to wield the power of these vast information ecosystems. Saudi Arabia is spending tens of billions of dollars acquiring video games businesses to wash its reputation. Russia has funded video game development to help spread disinformation about the war in Ukraine. Steve Bannon utilised tactics deployed by online video game communities to propel Donald Trump into the White House, and Charlie Kirk's alleged assassin even carved video game references into his bullets. Supported by the insights of politicians, academics and industry experts, Power Play is the vital guide for understanding this new political frontier, highlighting what democracies must do to protect and harness the immense power of play before the essential battle for digital influence is lost for good.
