Boldwood Books Lil's Bus Trip A1071695361
Boldwood Books Lil's Bus Trip A1071695361
Brand new from the USA Today bestselling author of The Old Girls' Network. It's always a good time for a road trip... When 82-year-old Lil decides to book herself, her 65-year-old daughter, Cassie, and her friend Maggie on a bus trip across Europe, she hopes for a little adventure to counteract the monotony of life. Along with three members of the Salterley Tennis Club and the Jolly Weaver football team, whose ideas of a good time are rather different to Lil's and strikingly at odds with each other's, the merry band of travellers set out on their great adventure. From moving moments on the beaches of Normandy, outrageous adventures in Amsterdam, to the beauty of Bruges and gastronomic delights of France, the holiday is just the tonic Lil, Maggie and Cassie needed. And as the time approaches for them to head home, Lil makes an unexpected discovery - even in her advancing years, men are like buses - there isn't one for ages then two come along at once. Is Lil ready to share her golden years, and can the ladies embrace the fresh starts that the trip has given them. Or is it just too late to change... Judy Leigh is back with her trademark promise of laughter, happiness, friendship, and timeless lessons in how to live. Praise for Judy Leigh: 'Brilliantly funny, emotional and uplifting' Miranda Dickinson 'Lovely . . . a book that assures that life is far from over at seventy' Cathy Hopkins bestselling author of The Kicking the Bucket List 'Brimming with warmth, humour and a love of life... a wonderful escapade' Fiona Gibson, bestselling author of The Woman Who Upped and Left

Just in time for the holidays, designed by the Award-winning graphic novelist, Seth! This collection of books--identical to the individual volumes--ships shrinkwrapped, with two hardcovers containing complete strips from the years 1971-1972 and 1973-1974, packed in a sturdy custom box designed especially for this set. The perfect gift item. The Complete Peanuts 1971-1972 : Sally Brown elbows her way to center stage, at least among the humans, and is thus the logical choice for cover girl... and in her honor, the introduction is provided by none other than Broadway, television and film star Kristin (Wicked) Chenoweth, who first rose to Tony-winning fame with her scene-stealing performance as Sally in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Two long Summer-camp sequences involve Charlie Brown and Peppermint Patty, who has decided that Charlie Brown is madly in love with her, much to his clueless confusion. Snoopy shows up at camp as well, as does Peppermint Patty's new permanent sidekick, the one and only Marcie. The eternally mutable Snoopy mostly shakes off his World War I Flying Ace identity and turns into Joe Cool, college hipster extraordinaire. And in three long sequences he writes a fan letter to his favorite author, Miss Helen Sweetstory, then goes on a journey to meet her, and finally enlists Charlie Brown's help when her latest opus, "The Six Bunny-Wunnies Freak Out," falls afoul of censors. Also, Woodstock attends worm school, falls in love with a worm (perhaps the most doomed unrequited Peanuts love story ever!), and is nearly eaten by the neighbors' cat... Peppermint Patty is put on trial for another dress code violation and makes a very ill-advised choice in terms of lawyers... Snoopy turns Linus's blanket into not one but two sportcoats... Lucy hits a home run... and the birth of one Rerun Van Pelt! The Complete Peanuts 1973-1974 : This volume features a number of tennis strips and several extended sequences involving Peppermint Patty's friend Marcie (including a riotous, rarely seen sequence in which Marcie's costume-making and hairstyling skills utterly spoil a skating competition for PP), so it seems only right that this volume's introduction should be served up by Schulz's longtime friend, tennis champion Billie Jean King. This volume also picks up on a few loose threads from the previous year, as the mysterious "Poochie" shows up in the flesh; Linus and Lucy's new kid brother "Rerun" makes his first appearance, is almost immediately drafted onto the baseball team (where, thanks to his tiny strike zone, he wins a game), and embarks on his first terrifying journey on the back of his mom's bike; and, in one of Peanuts' oddest recurring storylines, the schoolhouse Sally used to talk to starts talking, or at least thinking, back at her! The Complete Peanuts 1973-1974 also includes one of the all-time classic Peanuts sequences, in which Charlie Brown's baseball-oriented hallucinations finally manifest themselves in a baseball-shaped rash on his head. Forced to conceal the embarrassing discoloration with a bag worn over his head, Charlie Brown goes to camp as "Mister Sack" and discovers that, shorn of his identity, he's suddenly well liked and successful.

Abrams & Chronicle Art But Make It Sports A1076299186
A clever and laugh-out-loud art history twist on your favorite sports moments, from the creator of the social media phenomenon Art But Make It Sports. Epic moments in modern sports are masterfully paired with their fine art doppelgangers in this incredible compilation of side-by-side images that sports fans will marvel at. Featuring photographs from basketball, baseball, softball, football, soccer, tennis, hockey, golf, the Olympics, and more, matched with paintings and other pieces of historical art that mirror them, the undeniable similarities will keep you turning the pages! Is it LeBron James holding up the NBA Cup after the Lakers defeated the Indiana Pacers in the 2023 In-Season Tournament Championship, or is it Salvador Dalí's Man Holding Up a Baby? Is Caitlin Clark posing for a portrait during the 2024 WNBA draft, or is that Judith with the Head of Holofernes by Charles Mellin? What about Jason Kelce celebrating a touchdown. Is it a good time amongst friends, or is it The Feast of Bacchus by Phillips Koninck? And there's more than just the one-to-one visual comparisons—the thematic connections present in each pairing are equally fascinating. Just as in Eugène Delacroix's 1830 painting Liberty Leading the People, we see Sabrina Ionescu (of the New York Liberty) encapsulate the same themes of power and strength as she leads her team to victory during the 2023 WNBA Playoffs. You won't be able to tear yourself away from the surprising and sometimes eerie comparisons that await you in this book, an unbeatable gift for sports fans and art history lovers alike.
