Ibidem Life Writing. Contemporary Autobiography, Biography, and Travel Writing A1000910426
Ibidem Life Writing. Contemporary Autobiography, Biography, and Travel Writing A1000910426
These proceedings of the international 2006 symposium ‘The Theory and Practice of Life Writing: Auto/biography, Memoir and Travel Writing in Post/modern Literature’ at Haliç University, Istanbul, include the majority of contributions to this event, some of them heavily revised for publication. A first group, treatments of more comprehensive and/or theoretical aspects of life and travel writing, concerns genre history (Nazan Aksoy; Manfred Pfister), typology (Manfred Pfister; Sidonie Smith and Julia Watson), issues of narration (Gerald P. Mulderig; Rana Tekcan), the recent phenomenon of blogging (Leman Giresunlu), and therapeutic narrative (Wendy Ryden). A second group—whose concern often heavily overlaps with the first in that it also pursues theoretical goals—concentrates on individual authors and artists: Sabâ Altınsay and Dido Sotiriou (Banu Özel), Samuel Beckett (Oya Berk), the sculptor Alexander Calder (Barbara B. Zabel), G. Thomas Couser and his filial memoir, Moris Farhi (Bronwyn Mills), Jean Genet (Clare Brandabur), Henry James (Laurence Raw), Orhan Pamuk (Dilek Doltaş; Ayşe F. Ece), Sylvia Plath (Richard J. Larschan), Edouard Roditi (Clifford Endres), Sara Rosenberg (Claire Emilie Martin), the dancer Mrinalini Sarabhai (Leena Chandorkar), Alev Tekinay (Özlem Öğüt); Uwe Timm (Jutta Birmele), and female British and American Oriental travellers (Tea Jansson).

KNV Besorgung Last Christmas A1054678820
'The perfect gift for anyone who loves all things Christmas ... it's a festive gem' Woman & Home 'A beautiful, funny and soulful collection of personal essays' Prima ___________ The perfect gift book, featuring the writing of Meryl Streep, Bill Bailey, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Caitlin Moran, Richard Ayoade, Emily Watson and others, to coincide with the upcoming movie Last Christmas, starring Emma Thompson, Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding. When you think back to Christmases past, what (if anything) made it magical? Looking towards the future, what would your perfect Christmas be? What would you change? What should we all change? This is a beautiful, funny and soulful collection of personal essays about the meaning of Christmas, written by a unique plethora of voices from the boulevards of Hollywood to the soup kitchens of Covent Garden. Away from the John Lewis advert, the high street decorations and the candied orange in Heston Blumenthal's Christmas pudding, this gem of a book introduced and curated by Emma Thompson and Greg Wise celebrates the importance of kindness and generosity, acceptance and tolerance - and shows us that these values are not just for Christmas.

SNR Audio The Hound of the Baskervilles A1074805927
'The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes.' Often considered the greatest novel from the Sherlock Holmes universe, The Hound of the Baskervilles is a thrilling feat of Gothic horror, murder and, of course, mystery. On the desolate moors of Dartmoor, a chilling legend of a demonic demon has plagued the Baskerville family for years. Charles Baskerville, who recently retired to the family estate, is soon found dead in a yew alley, supposedly of a heart attack. But his dear friend, Dr James Mortimer, who notices huge paw prints near the body, suspects foul play. Enlisting the help of the unparalleled Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson, Mortimer is determined to protect the last Baskerville heir, Sir Henry, and uncover the truth. As Holmes attempts to separate rational deduction from supernatural dread, the beast strikes yet again, leading Holmes on a path of deceit, greed and staged terror. Pacey, captivating and unpredictable, The Hound of the Baskervilles is a masterclass of detective fiction. Arthur Conan Doyle (1859 – 1930) was a Scottish writer and physician. Although he also had an affinity to writing fantasy and science fiction, he is most famous for creating the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes. His crime fiction is still widely read, adapted and studied to this day.

BoD – Books on Demand „The Pilgrim's Progress“ von John Bunyan, Teil 2 A1039680507
Die besten Künstler ihrer Zeit wurden dazu herangezogen; neben vielen anderen werden in diesem zweiten Teil Kunstwerke folgender Meister besprochen: John Gilbert (1817-1897) Josiah Wood Whymper (1813-1903) Frederic James Shields (1833-1911) William Bell Scott (1811-1890) M. Paolo Priolo (1820-1890 oder 1892) Thomas Stothard (1755-1834) Alexander Francis Lydon (1836-1917) John Dawson Watson (1836-1866) Henry Courtney Selous (1803-1890) Frederick Thrupp (1812-1895) Frederick Barnard (1846-1896) Frederick Rhead (1880-1942) George Cruikshank (1792-1878) Harold Copping (1863-1932) Rachael Robinson Elmer (1878-1919) Gertrude Hermes (1901-1983) Robert Lawson (1892-1957) Edward Ardizzone (1900-1979) William Lindsay Cable (1900-1949) James Edwin McConnell (1903-1995) Edwin Bawden (1903-1989) Peter Rothwell C. Strelbytskyy Multimedia Publishing The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle A1071485115
The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle is one of 56 short Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the seventh story of twelve in the collection The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in Strand Magazine in January 1892.As London prepares for Christmas, newspapers report the theft of the near-priceless gemstone, the "Blue Carbuncle", from the hotel suite of the Countess of Morcar. John Horner, a plumber and a previously convicted felon, is soon arrested for the theft. Despite Horner's claims of innocence, the police are sure that they have their man. Horner's record, and his presence in the Countess's room where he was repairing a fireplace, are all the police need.Just after Christmas, Watson pays a visit to Holmes at 221B Baker Street. He finds the detective contemplating a battered old hat brought to him by the commissionaire, Peterson. Both the hat and a Christmas goose had been dropped by a man in a scuffle with some street ruffians. The honest Peterson had sought Holmes's help in returning the items to their owner but although the goose bears a tag with the owner's name—Henry Baker—based on the number of people with this name in London there is little hope of finding the man. Peterson takes the goose home for dinner, and Holmes keeps the hat to study as an intellectual exercise.Famous works of the author Arthur Conan Doyle's: "A Study in Scarlet", "Silver Blaze", "The Hound of the Baskervilles", "The Yellow Face", "A Scandal in Bohemia", "The Red-Headed League", A Case of Identity", "The Boscombe Valley Mystery", "The Five Orange Pips", "The Man with the Twisted Lip", "The Blue Carbuncle", "The Speckled Band", "The Engineer's Thumb", "The Noble Bachelor", "The Beryl Coronet", "The Copper Beeches" and many more.
