Das Grab des Tut-ench-Amun - von Howard Carter, gelesen von Ingolf Kloss. 1922: Seit fünf Jahren sucht der Archäologe Howard Carter im Tal der Könige nach dem Grab des Pharao Tutanchamun (ursprünglich auch Tut-ench-Amun genannt). Ohne Erfolg. Die Zeit der großen Entdeckungen im Tal der Könige scheint da eigentlich schon lange vorbei. In den drei Jahrtausenden zuvor haben hier zahllose Grabräuber, Priester, Forscher und Schatzsucher gewütet. Das Tal ist voller aufgetürmter Schuttberge zwischen freigelegten Gräbern. Jedes Sandkorn ist bereits mehrfach gesiebt worden. Howard Carter aber zeigt sich davon unbeirrt. Im Herbst des Jahres steht der Engländer dennoch kurz vor der Aufgabe; nur einen Winter will er noch graben. Da entdeckt er unter einem Hang im Schutt eine Treppe. Und am Ende der Treppe eine Tür. Verbirgt sich dahinter das Grab des Pharao? Carter beschließt, Spezialisten aus aller Welt um Hilfe zu bitten. Im November 1922 entdecken schließlich der Brite und sein internationales Team das erste und einzige fast vollständig intakte ägyptische Königsgrab: die Totenstätte des Pharao Tutanchamun. Die Entdeckung der Grabkammern des Tutanchamun gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Momente in der Geschichte der Archäologie. Bis heute ranken sich zahlreiche Mythen um das Leben und den Tod des kindlichen Pharaos, der als Sohn des umstrittenen Königs Echnaton von zirka 1332 bis 1323 v. Chr. regierte. Dies ist der sachlich gehaltene Bericht über die Entdeckungsgeschichte des - neben den Pyramiden von Gizeh - berühmtesten Grabmals Ägyptens. In die wissenschaftliche Darstellung bringt Carter immer wieder seine eigenen Erlebnisse und Eindrücke mit ein. Nicht ohne Stolz berichtet er, wie er ab 1907/08 anhand mehrerer Funde US-amerikanischer Archäologen im Tal der Könige zur Überzeugung gelangte, dass das Grabmal von König Tut-ench-Amun noch seiner Entdeckung harrte. Doch erst als sein Auftraggeber Lord Carnarvon 1915 eine Grabungslizenz erhält, beginnt Carter selbst systematisch im vermuteten Gebiet zu suchen. Er stellt die eigentliche Entdeckungsgeschichte sowie die langwierige Bergung der zahlreichen Funde ausführlich dar und lockert seine Ausführungen durch fachliche und historische Erläuterungen immer wieder auf. Mary Shelley´s FRANKENSTEIN oder: Der moderne Prometheus, gelesen von Ingolf Kloss. Mary Shelleys Frankenstein ist eine erschreckende Vision des wissenschaftlichen Fortschritts ohne moralische Grenzen und führt den Zuhörer auf eine gefährliche Reise von der erhabenen Schönheit der Schweizer Alpen in die trostlose Einöde des Polarkreises. Besessen von der Idee, das Leben selbst zu erschaffen, plündert Victor Frankenstein Friedhöfe und Schlachtereien, stets auf der Suche nach dem Material, mit dem er ein neues Wesen erschaffen kann, und schließlich erweckt er seine Schöpfung mit Elektrizität zum Leben. Doch diese verpfuschte Kreatur, die von ihrem Schöpfer abgelehnt wird und der menschliche Gesellschaft verwehrt bleibt, macht sich auf, Frankenstein und alles, was ihm lieb ist, zu zerstören. Dieses Hörbuch ist die Vertonung einer besonderen Version des Romans. Mary Shelley schrieb diese Geschichte im Alter von 18 bis 20 Jahren und veröffentlichte sie 1818 anonym als 3-teiliges Werk. Jahre später überarbeitete sie Frankenstein, schrieb Teile des Textes komplett um, gab Elisabeth - einer der Hauptfiguren - eine völlig andere Familiengeschichte, änderte Satzzeichen, oder auch nur einzelne Wörter und fügte dem Roman ein ausführliches Vorwort hinzu. Diese Version wurde 1830 unter ihrem Namen veröffentlicht und ist die heute am meisten verbreitete Version des Stoffs. Dieses Hörbuch aber ist gewissermaßen eine Ergänzung, sie wurde aus beiden Fassungen zusammengefügt. Es gibt Aspekte aus der späteren Version, die uns bestimmte Handlungen in der ursprünglichen Fassung besser verstehen lassen. Und auch anders herum. Erst in dieser Zusammenfügung wird beispielsweise verständlich, warum sich Frankenstein und Elisabeth gegenseitig Cousin und Cousine nennen. Einfach weil sie es in der Originalgeschichte auch waren. Später änderte Mary Shelley diesen Aspekt und aus Elisabeth wurde ein Waisenkind, welches von Frankensteins Familie aufgenommen wurde. Wenn Frankensteins Monster seinem Schöpfer über mehrere Kapitel hinweg seine Geschichte erzählt, dann ist es in der Veröffentlichung von 1830 eine etwas ausführlichere, die auch in diesem Hörbuch so erzählt wird. Bei dem hier vorliegenden Hörbuch handelt es sich daher im Prinzip um die Geschichte in ihrer ursprünglichen 3-teiligen Form, ergänzt durch das Vorwort und einigen Textpassagen aus der überarbeiteten Version - also Mary Shelleys Original-Frankenstein als komplette, ungekürzte, erweiterte Geschichte, die in dieser Fassung als deutschsprachige Ausgabe einzigartig sein dürfte. Für dieses Hörbuch wurden die fehlenden Originaltextpassagen aus dem Englischen von Ingolf Kloss neu übersetzt und eingefügt, die ursprüngliche Übersetzung von Heinz Widtmann (1908) wurde komplett überarbeitet. Jules Verne: Die Meuterer von der »Bounty« erzählt von Ingolf Kloss. In der Geschichte der Seefahrt hat es immer wieder Meutereien gegeben, aber keine wurde so häufig beschrieben, nacherzählt und verfilmt wie die Vorfälle auf dem englischen Marineschiff "Bounty". Doch all dies, was uns Clark Gable, Marlon Brando oder Mel Gibson so überzeugend im Kino vorspielten, gehört ins Reich der Legenden. "Die ganze Nacht segelten wir bei schwachem Wind nordwärts. Soweit war nun unsere Reise mit ununterbrochen gutem Glück vor sich gegangen. Jetzt aber sollten wir etwas gänzlich anderes erfahren. Es hatte sich eine Verschwörung angesponnen, so geheim verabredet, dass auch nicht das geringste Anzeichen einen Verdacht in uns erregen konnte." So Kapitän William Bligh in seinen Erinnerungen an die Meuterei auf dem englischen Schiff am Morgen des 28. April 1789 im Südpazifik. "Kurz vor Sonnenaufgang, als ich noch schlief, kamen Fletcher Christian und drei seiner Kumpane in meine Kajüte, ergriffen mich, banden mir die Hände auf den Rücken und drohten, mich augenblicklich zu töten, wenn ich nur den geringsten Lärm machen würde." Mit 18 ihm ergebenen Männern wurde Bligh in das Beiboot verfrachtet, mit etwas Proviant versorgt und in den scheinbar sicheren Tod geschickt. Doch in einer nautischen Meisterleistung navigierte Bligh in knapp zwei Monaten das überfüllte Boot 6000 Kilometer bis nach Timor, dem heutigen Indonesien. Nach London heimgekehrt feierte man ihn. Der "English Chronicle" schrieb 1790: "Dass er ein kleines Boot durch ein so gefährliches Meer gesteuert hat, beweist ein seemännisches Können, das so unvergleichlich ist, wie das Unternehmen selbst jenseits des Vorstellbaren zu liegen scheint." Die meisten Meuterer wurden zwei Jahre später aufgespürt und gefangen genommen. Vier von ihnen aber war die Flucht auf eine Insel geglückt. Pitcairn ist ein winziges Eiland auf halbem Weg zwischen Neuseeland und Peru. Hierhin flohen die Bounty-Meuterer 1789. Ihre Nachfahren leben heute noch auf der abgelegenen Insel. Überwinterung im Eis Eine Erzählung von Jules Verne, gelesen von Ingolf Kloss. In der Hafenstadt Dünkirchen wird der Pfarrer davon abgehalten die Messe zu lesen. Der alte Seefahrer Johann Cornbutte erinnert ihn daran eine Abmachung einzuhalten. Cornbuttes Sohn Ludwig ist Kapitän auf der Brigg "Jeune-Hardie". Wenn dieses aus dem Nordmeer zurückkommt, soll die Trauung zwischen seinem Sohn und seiner Nichte Marie stattfinden. Während der Pfarrer die Messe durch seinen Vikar halten lässt, eilt Johann Cornbutte mit seiner in Brautkleidern erschienenen Nichte Marie zum Hafen. Das einfahrende Schiff zeigt jedoch die Trauerflagge. Ludwig Cornbutte ist nicht mehr an Bord. Von dem Ersten Steuermann André Vasling erfahren die entsetzten Anwesenden, was geschehen ist. In der Nähe des Mahlstromes bemerkte die Besatzung der "Jeune-Hardie" Notsignale. Der Kapitän Ludwig Cornbutte und zwei seiner Matrosen ließen sich mit der Schaluppe aussetzen, um einem norwegischen Schiff zu Hilfe zu eilen. Die drei verschwanden bei Nebel im Sturm und gelten als verschollen. Sie werden später für tot erklärt. Johann Cornbutte will sich jedoch nicht damit abfinden, er startet eine Expeditionsreise ins Nordmeer, um die Vermissten zu suchen. Ein spannendes Abenteuer beginnt... Die damalige Zeit hatte ihre Helden, die offensichtlich Jules Verne zu dieser Erzählung inspirierten. Keine Frage beschäftigte die wissenschaftlichen Kreise damals mehr als die, wo der Nordpol zu suchen sei und welche Verhältnisse an diesem unwirtlichen Ort herrschten. Um diese Fragen zu lösen, wurde besonders der Weg an der Westküste von Grönland entlang von den Amerikanern und Engländern gewählt, um zum Pol vorzudringen. In aller Munde war die Expedition von Sir John Franklin und seinen Männern, die am 18. Mai 1845 von Greehithe bei London zum Nordpol startete. John Franklin galt ab 1847 als verschollen, aber diverse Such-Expeditionen folgten ihm. Die Rettungstrupps wurden von Franklins zweiter Frau Jane finanziert. Einen Teil der Fakten dieser Begebenheit finden wir auch in Jules Vernes Abenteuergeschichte wieder. Jane Austen was born on 16 December 1775, the sixth child of seven. Her father George was the rector at Steventon, near Basingstoke, and was a prosperous and cultured man. He encouraged Jane to write and read widely as a child, at fourteen, she had written Love and Friendship and at fifteen had finished the ambitiously titled A History of England . Although Austen&#39,s heroines underwent adventures, Jane herself led an uneventful life. She did once accept a proposal of marriage one evening, only to change her mind the following morning! For the most part it was a quiet family life interspersed with outings to Bath, London and Lyme. Her novels were written in the intervals between family excursions, although not in the order in which they were published. Sense and Sensibility (published in 1811) was originally written in 1795 as Elinor and Marianne. Pride and Prejudice (published in 1813) began life as &#39,First Impression s&#39, in 1797. Of her other novels, Mansfield Park was published in 1814, Emma in 1816 and Persuasion posthumously in 1818. Throughout her life Jane kept up regular correspondences with her sister Cassandra, her friends and her nieces and nephews. Although Cassandra removed anything deeply personal from these letters after Jane&#39,s death, they tell of her attitude to her work, describing it as &#39,the little bit (two inches wide) of Ivory on which I work with so fine a brush, as produces little effect after much labour&#39,. This modest assessment was not shared by Sir Walter Scott or by the Prince Regent, who kept a set of her novels in each of his residences. The Austens moved several times during the course of Jane&#39,s life: in 1801 they left Steventon for Bath. After George Austen&#39,s death in 1805 they moved to Southampton and then, in 1809, to Chawton. In the weeks prior to her death, Jane lodged in Winchester in order to be close to her doctor. Her illness has been attributed to several possible conditions, including Addison&#39,s disease (a disorder of the adrenal glands whose symptoms include tiredness and weight loss), Hodgkin&#39,s disease (a form of cancer) and arsenic poisoning. She died on 18 July 1817. Jane Austen&#39,s novels have acquired a following which is almost cult-like, and the many dramatisations of her work for screen, television and radio are testament to the books&#39, enduring popularity. One of her works was amongst the earliest transmissions to be heard on BBC radio: a reading of the proposal scene from Pride and Prejudice was broadcast on 15 January 1924.
