Good Press How to bring men to Christ A1067872296
How to Bring Men to Christ is a practical manual of evangelical persuasion, written to train Christians in the art of personal soul-winning. Torrey organizes the work with characteristic clarity, addressing various spiritual conditions-indifference, skepticism, anxiety, self-righteousness-and prescribing biblical counsel for each. Its style is direct, methodical, and Scripture-saturated, reflecting the late nineteenth-century revivalist context in which apologetics, pastoral care, and urgent evangelism were closely joined. R. A. Torrey, an American evangelist, pastor, educator, and close associate of D. L. Moody, wrote from extensive experience in revival meetings, Bible institutes, and urban mission work. As superintendent of Moody Bible Institute and later a global preacher, Torrey was deeply concerned not merely with public preaching but with disciplined, face-to-face spiritual guidance. This book reflects his conviction that conversion involves both divine grace and careful human witness. Readers interested in historic evangelical practice, pastoral ministry, or the rhetoric of Christian conversion will find this volume highly instructive. Though its tone belongs to its era, its seriousness, organization, and pastoral urgency remain valuable for understanding practical evangelism.
VDM Murungi, C: Children's Basic Needs and Enrolment in Early Ch A1013648050
Human beings spend a great deal of time working towards provision of their basic needs. Provision of such basic needs is particularly important not only to adults but also to pre-school children. Available literature shows that enrolment of children in pre-school is low. The researcher believes that failure to adequately meet basic needs such as food, shelter and health care leads to children's low enrolment in pre-school and in other levels of education. The study reveals that there is a relationship between parental provision of basic needs and children's enrollment in pre-school.This book was writen after a doctoral research that was conducted on Children's Basic Needs and Enrolment in Early Childhood Education in Miriga Mieru West Division of Imenti North District, Kenya. The author believes that children's basic needs must be met adequately to be able to increase enrolments and retention rates of children in pre-school education and in other levels of education. This book will be useful to Parents, teachers, trainers, policy makers and experts in Early Childhood Education. The book also provides information on how to improve enrollments in education at all levels.

Taylor & Francis Exploring Creativity Through Writing A1074607405
The book explores the nature of human creativity and its importance in education with reference to past and ongoing work on creativity theory. It aims to direct the attention of teachers to the need for creativity in education by dispelling the mystique surrounding it, and the feelings of inadequacy or apprehension it may evoke in educators, particularly in the Asia region. The book offers an introduction to creativity in writing: the rationale for including it in language programmes, the benefits it can bestow and the results it can produce - as well as dealing with common objections to it. It divides creative writing into two major sections - poetry and stories, followed by a copious set of varied classroom activities. For each activity, a standard format is adopted to offer teachers maximum support in implementing the procedures, including supplementary comments on each activity. It is distinct for its accessibility and clarity, its abundance of practical and ready-touse classroom activities and its unique combination of theoretical underpinnings and practical implementation. This book will be useful to students, pre-service teachers and researchers who are new to the teaching of English Language, both in the Asian context and in the wider world. It will also be an essential companion to practicing in-service teachers and Teacher Trainers to further sharpen their concepts and skills.

Simon & Schuster N.Y. Don't Shoot the Dog A1053540787
Karen Pryor's clear and entertaining explanation of behavioral training methods made Don't Shoot the Dog a bestselling classic with revolutionary insights into animal--and human--behavior. In her groundbreaking approach to improving behavior, behavioral biologist Karen Pryor says, "Whatever the task, whether keeping a four-year-old quiet in public, housebreaking a puppy, coaching a team, or memorizing a poem, it will go fast, and better, and be more fun, if you know how to use reinforcement." Now Pryor clearly explains the underlying principles of behavioral training and reveals how this art can be applied to virtually any common situation. And best of all, she tells how to do it without yelling threats, force, punishment, guilt trips--or shooting the dog. From the eight methods for putting an end to all kinds of undesirable behavior to the ten laws of "shaping" behavior, Pryor helps you combat your own addictions and deal with such difficult problems as a moody spouse, an impossible teen, or an aged parent. Plus, there's also incredibly helpful information on house training the dog, improving your tennis game, keeping the cat off the table, and much more! "In the course of becoming a renowned dolphin trainer, Karen Pryor learned that positive reinforcement...is even more potent that prior scientific work had suggested...Don't Shoot the Dog looks like the very best on the subject--a full-scale mind-changer" (The Coevolution Quarterly). Learn why pet owners rave, "This book changed our lives!" and how these pioneering techniques can work for you, too.
Touchladybirdlucky Studios Constellation Games A1022772139
First contact isn't all fun and games. Ariel Blum is pushing thirty and doesn't have much to show for it. His computer programming skills are producing nothing but pony-themed video games for little girls. His love life is a slow-motion train wreck, and whenever he tries to make something of his life, he finds himself back on the couch, replaying the games of his youth. Then the aliens show up. Out of the sky comes the Constellation: a swarm of anarchist anthropologists, exploring our seas, cataloguing our plants, editing our wikis, and eating our Twinkies. No one knows how to respond--except for nerds like Ariel who've been reading, role-playing and wargaming first-contact scenarios their entire lives. Ariel sees the aliens' computers, and he knows that wherever there are computers, there are video games. Ariel just wants to start a business translating alien games so they can be played on human computers. But a simple cultural exchange turns up ancient secrets, government conspiracies, and unconventional anthropology techniques that threaten humanity as we know it. If Ariel wants his species to have a future, he's going to have to take the step that nothing on Earth could make him take. He'll have to grow up.

An employee of the renowned Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld at the Institute of Sexual Science, Bertie works to improve queer rights in Germany and beyond. But everything changes when Hitler rises to power. The Institute is raided, the Eldorado is shuttered, and queer people are rounded up. Bertie barely escapes with his girlfriend, Sofie, to a nearby farm. There they take on the identities of an elderly couple and live for more than a decade in isolation. In the final days of the war, with their freedom in sight, Bertie and Sofie find a young trans man collapsed on their property, still dressed in Holocaust prison clothes. They vow to protect him—not from the Nazis, but from the Allied forces who are arresting queer prisoners while liberating the rest of the country. Ironically, as the Allies’ vise grip closes on Bertie and his family, their only salvation is to flee to the United States. Brimming with hope, resilience, and the enduring power of community, The Lilac People tells an extraordinary story inspired by real events and recovers an unknown moment of World War II and trans history.

Originating in the armed forces of the early 20th century, weapons based on chemical, biological or nuclear agents have become an everpresent threat that has not vanished after the end of the cold war. Since the technology to produce these agents is nowadays available to many countries and organizations, including those with terrorist aims, civil authorities across the world need to prepare against incidents involving these agents and train their personnel accordingly. As an introductory text on NBC CBRN weapons and agents, this book leads the reader from the scientific basics to the current threats and strategies to prepare against them. After an introductory part on the history of NBC CBRN weapons and their international control, the three classes of nuclear/radiological, biological, and chemical weapons are introduced, focusing on agents and delivery vehicles. Current methods for the rapid detection of NBC CBRN agents are introduced, and the principles of physical protection of humans and structures are explained. The final parts addresses more general issues of risk management, preparedness and response management, as the set of tools that authorities and civil services will be needed in a future CBRN scenario as well as the likely future scenarios that authorities and civil services will be faced with in the coming years. This book is a must-have for Health Officers, Public Health Agencies, and Military Authorities.
