Lars Müller Publishers Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth A1001120064
Lars Müller Publishers Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth A1001120064
Buckminster Fuller (1895–1983) was an architect, engineer, geometrician, cartographer, philosopher, futurist, inventor of the famous geodesic dome, and one of the most brilliant thinkers of his time. For more than five decades, he set forth his comprehensive perspective on the world’s problems in numerous essays, which offer an illuminating insight into the intellectual universe of this renaissance man. These texts remain surprisingly topical even today, decades after their initial publication. While Fuller wrote the works in the 1960’s and 1970’s; they could not be more timely: like desperately needed time-capsules of wisdom for the critical moment he foresaw, and in which we find ourselves. Long out of print, they are now being published again, together with commentary by Jaime Snyder, the grandson of Buckminster Fuller. Designed for a new generation of readers, Snyder prepared these editions with supplementary material providing background on the texts, factual updates, and interpretation of his visionary ideas. Initially published in 1969, and one of Fuller’s most popular works, Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth is a brilliant synthesis of his world view. In this very accessible volume, Fuller investigates the great challenges facing humanity, and the principles for avoiding extinction and “exercising our option to make it.” How will humanity survive? How does automation influence individualization? How can we utilize our resources more effectively to realize our potential to end poverty in this generation? He questions the concept of specialization, calls for a design revolution of innovation, and offers advice on how to guide “spaceship earth” toward a sustainable future. And it Came to Pass – Not to Stay brings together Buckminster Fuller’s lyrical and philosophical best, including seven “essays” in a form he called his “ventilated prose”; and as always addressing the current global crisis and his predictions for the future. These essays, including “How Little I Know”; “What I am Trying to Do“; “Soft Revolution”; and “Ethics”; put the task of ushering in a new era of humanity in the context of “always starting with the universe.” In rare form, Fuller elegantly weaves the personal, the playful, the simple, and the profound. Utopia or Oblivion is a provocative blueprint for the future. This comprehensive volume is composed of essays derived from the lectures he gave all over the world during the 1960’s. Fuller’s thesis is that humanity – for the first time in its history – has the opportunity to create a world where the needs of 100% of humanity are met. This is Fuller in his prime, relaying his urgent message for earthians’ critical moment and presenting pioneering solutions which reflect his commitment to the potential of innovative design to create technology that does “more with less” and thereby improves human lives. “This is what man tends to call utopia. It’s a fairly small word, but inadequate to describe the extraordinary new freedom of man in a new relationship to universe - the alternative of which is oblivion.” Buckminster Fuller.

Abrams & Chronicle Books The Grateful Dead by Jim Marshall A1073798833
One of the greatest bands of all time and one of the greatest music photographers in history meet in this incredible visual archive featuring exclusive never-before-seen photos. Jim Marshall took thousands of photos of the Grateful Dead throughout their career—from Woodstock to the last free concert on Haight Street and beyond. Marshall’s magnificent images chronicle the band’s trajectory as hairstyles changed, relationships came and went, and the music evolved into the sound that would become beloved by generations to come. Marshall’s instinctive eye matched the Dead’s improvisational style, and he was welcomed into its family as he immersed himself in San Francisco’s counterculture scene throughout the 1960s and ’70s. He documented casual domestic scenes and transcendent concerts alike, offering a nuanced and intimate portrait of the band. The striking images in this book—a third of which have never been published—are printed in the rich, high-contrast tones that Marshall favored. They include glimpses of remarkable moments like the Newport Pop Festival, Woodstock, and the Human Be-In. Quotes from contemporaries, collaborators, and members of the wider Dead community bring the images alive, while longer essays contextualize this photographic archive. Whether you were there from the beginning or wish you had been, this is your chance to see a glorious era of music history as you’ve never seen it before, through the eyes of a visionary artist. PHOTOGRAPHY ICON: Jim Marshall is the great rock-and-roll photographer, as his images of the Grateful Dead prove. In addition to being a legendary artist, he was a peer, colleague, and friend to the musicians and documented countless iconic musical moments throughout the 1960s and 1970s. NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN IMAGES: From electrifying photos of the band playing live onstage to more intimate portraits of rehearsals, this collection showcases an amazing array of images. One-third of the photos have never before been published, making The Grateful Dead by Jim Marshall an exclusive treat for any Deadhead or photography fan. THE ULTIMATE DEADHEAD COLLECTIBLE: Many books and documentary films have been created about the Grateful Dead, but Marshall's photographs offer an unmatched time capsule of the Dead and their era. Published to coincide with the band's 60th anniversary, this book is a perfect gift for anyone who's interested in music history or nostalgic for the counterculture of the ’60s and ’70s. Perfect for: Fans and followers of the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia, and Dead & Company Jim Marshall fans Classic rock devotees and musicians Photographers and photography book collectors Holiday shoppers looking for a great present for music lovers Birthday or any special occasion gift-giving to any devoted fan of the Dead and iconic American rock bands

KNV Besorgung Lessons from Madame Chic A1022871801
Inspired by Paris, this lighthearted and deceptively wise contemporary memoir serves as a guidebook for women on the path to adulthood, sophistication, and style, perfect for any woman looking to lead a more fulfilling, passionate, and artful life. Paris may be the City of Light, but for many it is also the City of Transformation. When Jennifer Scott arrived in Paris as an exchange student from California, she had little idea she would become an avid fan of French fashion, lifestyle, and sophistication. Used to a casual life back home, in Paris she was hosted by a woman she calls “Madame Chic;” mistress of a grand apartment in the Sixteenth Arrondissement. Madame Chic mentors Jennifer in the art of living, with elegance and an impeccably French less-is-more philosophy. Three-course meals prepared by the well-dressed Madame Chic (her neat clothes covered by an apron, of course) lure Jennifer from her usual habit of frequent snacks, junk food, sweatpants, and TV. Additional time spent with “Madame Bohemienne;” a charming single mother who passionately embraces Parisian joie de vivre, introduces readers to another facet of behind-closed-doors Parisian life. While Francophiles will appreciate this memoir of a young woman’s adventure abroad, others who may not know much about France will thrill to the surprisingly do-able (yet chic!) hair and makeup lessons, plus tips on how to create a capsule wardrobe with just ten useful core pieces. Each chapter of Lessons from Madame Chic reveals the valuable secrets Jennifer learned while under Madame Chic’s tutelage—tips you can master no matter where you live or the size of your budget. Embracing the classically French aesthetic of quality over quantity, aspiring Parisiennes will learn the art of eating (deprive yourself ¬ snacking is not chic), fashion (buy the best you can afford), grooming (le no-makeup look), among other tips. From entertaining to decor, you will gain insights on how to cultivate old-fashioned sophistication while living an active, modern life. Lessons from Madame Chic is the essential handbook for a woman that wants to look good, live well, and enjoy that Parisian je ne sais quoi in her own arrondissement.
