Auf StudiVZ, SchülerVZ oder auch Facebook verabreden sich Freunde zu Unternehmungen und präsentieren sich auf eigens angefertigten Seiten. Bei XING sucht man sich neue Geschäftspartner und tritt mit Unternehmen in Verbindung. Unternehmen und Medien, die "up to date" sein wollen, führen einen Blog, um in Kontakt mit den Kunden zu treten oder gar die Kunden an dem Entwurf eines Autos zu beteiligen (Bsp.: Fiat500). Diese Entwicklung wird mit dem Begriff Web 2.0 umschrieben. Was im Einzelnen dahinter steckt, welche theoretischen Gedanken, technischen Pro¬dukte und praktische Anwendungsmöglichkeiten sich hinter diesem 'hippen' Begriff verbergen und welche Risken für den User die Nutzung birgt, wird sich im Folgenden mit befasst, beginnend mit einer Definition von Web 2.0 und ihrer Abgrenzung vom Social Web (Kap. 2.1), fortfahrend mit dem theoretischen Hintergrund (Stichwort: Wikinomics) sowie den technologischen Voraussetzungen (Kap. 2.2), bevor dann (Kap. 2.3) auf die wichtigsten Anwendungsmöglichkeiten (Wiki, Blog, Podcast, Social Sharing) eingegangen wird. Despite claims made by the "no significant difference" literature that learning in asynchronous web based (AWB) media is the same as learning in face to face environments, there is evidence to the contrary. For example, AWB learning is a more "learner controlled" environment compared to face to face learning. Moreover, recent research has suggested that two specific characteristics; self regulated learning (SRL) and epistemological beliefs (EB) are key factors that can predict achievement in learner controlled environments, such as AWB undergraduate college courses. However, few studies to date have used predictive modeling in order to explain the effect of these two sets of factors on learner achievement in AWB environments. The present study looked at their influence as well as that of covariate factors such as reason for taking an online course, self-efficacy for using computer technology, and prior academic achievement on learning achievement in AWB undergraduate courses. The result was a predictive model headed by expectancy for learning as a predictor of learning achievement in AWB environments.
