VDM Lim, K: Chiral Extension of Lattice Field Theorywith Ginspar A1008301970
VDM Lim, K: Chiral Extension of Lattice Field Theorywith Ginspar A1008301970
Treating chiral symmetry in standard lattice QCD(quantum chromodynamics) approach has been a difficult issue. Due this difficulty, researchers often did extrapolations from un-physically massive u and d quarks. As a way for a better treatment of chiral symmetry, Brower, Shen and Tan proposed "chirally extended QCD" (also called XQCD) in 1994. An important basic scheme in XQCD is to add "irrelevant" terms to the action so that we have chiral symmetry on the lattice while having desired continuum limit. This book introduces part of the recent research of XQCD by R. Brower, C-I Tan, R. Edwards, F. Berruto, H. Neff, and K-T Lim that incorporates Ginsparg-Wilson fermions. It briefly explains the construction of continuum and lattice XQCD actions, introduces a numerical study of the imaginary part of the determinant of the coset XQCD Dirac operator, and shows step-by-step that the 4-d Yukawa Overlap XQCD fermion action can be derived from the standard 5-d domain-wall action. It would be useful to physicists and physics students specializing in QCD.

Import For Every Child A1002381372
:'Whoever we are, wherever we liveThese are the rights of every child under The sun, and the moon and the stars.'In November 1989 the United Nations formally adopted 54 principles which make up the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. From the right to a name and a nationality to the right to education and play and special protection for disabled children, the fourteen rights most pertinent to young children have been carefully chosen and interpreted here in simple language. 191 of the world's 193 countries have ratified the Convention making themselves legally bound to comply with its obligations. There is a wonderful international cast of acclaimed illustrators: from Britain, Shirley Hughes, Babette Cole, John Burningham and Peter Weevers; from the US Jerry Pinkney and Rachel Isadora; from Ireland PJ Lynch; French artist Philippe Dumas, Chilean illustrator Claudio Munoz; from Germany Henriette Sauvant; Indian artists Amrit and Rabindra K. D Kaur Singh; from Japan Satoshi Kitamura; Zimbabwe-born Ken Wilson Max; from China a brilliant new young artist Yang Twesi-yu. Each has illustrated a different right with an outstanding double page spread making a powerful and moving book that is both an important souvenir and a stunning picture book to be treasured.

Duke University Press Reading Country Music A1005061204
Duke University Press Reading Country Music A1005061204
With its steel guitars, Opry stars, and honky-tonk bars, country music is an American original. The most popular music in America today, it’s also big business. Amazing, then, that country music has been so little studied by critics, given its predominance in American culture. Reading Country Music acknowledges the significance of country music as part of an authentic American heritage and turns a loving, critical eye toward understanding the sweep of this peculiarly American phenomenon. Bringing together a wide range of scholars and critics from literature, communications, history, sociology, art, and music, this anthology looks at everything from the inner workings of the country music industry to the iconography of certain stars to the development of distinctive styles within the country music genre. Essays include a look at the shift from "hard-core" to "soft-shell" country music in recent years; Johnny Cash as lesbian icon; gender, class, and region in Dolly Parton’s star ℑ and bluegrass’s gothic tradition. Originally published as a special issue of South Atlantic Quarterly, this expanded book edition includes new articles on the spirituality of Willie Nelson, the legacy and tradition of stringed music, and the revival of Stephen Foster’s blackface musical, among others. Contributors. Mary A. Bufwack, Don Cusic, Curtis W. Ellison, Mark Fenster, Vivien Green Fryd, Teresa Goddu, T. To get it, he’ll summon the most dangerous foe that the Turtles have ever encountered—the Collectors, shape-shifting demons that can pass through dimensions at will and cannot be stopped once they have been summoned to harvest a soul. Little, Brown Book Group The Trident and the Pearl A1074804351
A desperate queen makes a deal with the gods to save her land in this spellbinding romantasy debut from Sarah K. L. Wilson. Queen Coralys rules the Kingdom of the Five Isles, but when disaster strikes, killing her husband and destroying half her nation, she pleads with the gods for salvation. And they do save her, turning back the terrible winds and tide, and snatching her islands from the brink of destruction. But the gods have a wicked sense of justice and they demand an exchange for their help: Coralys must marry the first man to set foot on her pier. Coralys expects the fleet of a neighboring country to come to rescue her people, led by its prince, a loyal ally. What she gets instead is a fisherman so sunburnt and stinking that her court can barely keep their breakfast down. Coralys, undaunted, marries the fisherman just as she promised the gods, and sets out with him in his unkempt dinghy, with nothing but hopes of revenge against the gods to keep her from despair. But what this fearless queen does not know is that the fisherman is actually the god of the sea and he stepped on her dock on purpose. His own kingdom besieged, his body terribly wounded, and his place as a god threatened, the god of the sea has plans to turn the tides set against him and finally offer a place of refuge for his people. But to work the magic he needs will require the willing help of the one woman bent on his destruction. Tropes to watch for: THE ULTIMATE ENEMIES TO LOVERS, rage against destiny, slow burn romance, sea god vibes, dark fairy-tale, hurt/comfort aka comforting wounded hearts.

For fans of Cloud Atlas and Station Eleven, a spellbinding and profoundly prescient work of literary science fiction that follows a cast of intricately linked characters over hundreds of years as humanity struggles to rebuild itself in the aftermath of a climate plague—a daring and deeply heartfelt work of mind-bending imagination from a singular new voice. In 2030, a grieving archeologist arrives in the Arctic Circle to continue the work of his recently deceased daughter at the Batagaika Crater, where researchers are studying long-buried secrets now revealed in melting permafrost, including the perfectly preserved remains of a girl who appears to have died of an ancient virus. Once unleashed, the Arctic plague will reshape life on Earth for generations to come, quickly traversing the globe, forcing humanity to devise a myriad of moving and inventive ways to embrace possibility in the face of tragedy. In a theme park designed for terminally ill children, a cynical employee falls in love with a mother desperate to hold on to her infected son. A heartbroken scientist searching for a cure finds a second chance at fatherhood when one of his test subjects—a pig—develops the capacity for human speech. A widowed painter and her teenaged granddaughter embark on a cosmic quest to locate a new home planet. From funerary skyscrapers to hotels for the dead to interstellar starships, Sequoia Nagamatsu takes readers on a wildly original and compassionate journey of interconnected stories, spanning continents, centuries, and even celestial bodies to tell a story about the resilience of the human spirit, our infinite capacity to dream, and the connective threads that tie us all together in the universe. "Wondrous, and not just in the feats of imagination, which are so numerous it makes me dizzy to recall them, but also in the humanity and tenderness with which Sequoia Nagamatsu helps us navigate this landscape. . . . This is a truly amazing book, one to keep close as we imagine the uncertain future." — Kevin Wilson, New York Times bestselling author of Nothing to See Here
