Test: Einzeltest: Sony NWZ-B173
Zitat: The good: + The Sony NWZ-B173 is a cute MP3 player with a nice design. At about the size of a cigarette lighter it is also very compact, and more than small enough to fit into any pocket. Weighing just 28 grams you’ll hardly notice its weight when plonked in your pocket or clipped to your shirt. The NWX-B173 is also small and light enough to use when jogging or at the gym. The integrated USB plug makes grabbing tracks from a PC easy: just plug it in and then get dragging and dropping your chosen music tracks and albums from your desktop to the player. There’s 4GB of internal memory in total, so there’s plenty of room for lots of albums at good quality. For such a small bit of tech the NWZ-B173 packs powerful sound at high volumes. Sound quality overall is very impressive. Battery life is another boon for the Sony NWZ-B173. A full 18 hours is more than enough. Unless you’ve got the MP3 player plugged in all day, it would be a while before you would need to recharge the player. A nice LCD display offers easy navigation between albums, artists and songs. It’s dead-easy to use.
The bad: - A lack of features prevents the Sony NWZ-B173 from really standing out. There is no radio, and the memory cannot be extended beyond its 4GB capacity. There is also limited support for music formats beyond MP3 and WMA files. The navigation wheel can also lead to accidental music selections.
And while the design is nice and trendy, the protective cap that covers the USB plug is always prone to getting lost. We also wouldn’t bother activating the bass boost function either, but thankfully this is because sound is great in the first place.
The Sony NWZ-B173 holds its own for what it offers. Sound quality is the tops, and it’s really light, making it great to carry around. For around £32 it’s a bargain. However the Sony NWZ-B173 is severely lacking in features and can be at times fiddly to use. The NWZ-B173 is a good MP3 player for those looking for something basic, with a bit of style thrown in, but it’s far from the best around.
