It all began with the layout and appearance of the motherboard. The black, blue and white is a pleasure to look at. The color combination shows ASUS is willing to give us pretty as well as performance. With the increase in sales of black exterior cases, the addition of ASUS P7P55-E Deluxe is a no-brainer. The layout is great functionally as well. The distance between the two 16x PCIe slots is ideal spacing for those that use to use dual graphic cards as a decent flow of air can squeeze between the two. Another thing we liked about the layout is the non-use of tall or over-sized heat sinks. This made it easier to install after-market heat sinks of our choosing. All ports are located along the side of the motherboard, making them easily accessible. One reason many people would choose a motherboard like this is because, they intend to overclock to some degree. Honestly, overclocking the ASUS P7P55-E Deluxe is fairly eas,y but some knowledge in the procedure is highly recommended. We were able to get very high clocks on air as well as a high BLK level. We used an Intel Core i5 750 in our testing that naturally runs at 2.66GHz, we were able to hit 3.9GHz with little effort and time. And the 226 BLK, we hit was the highest we have experienced with any other P55 suited motherboard. Yes, we did this using nothing but BIOS settings. ASUS implemented many ways to overclock your CPU. TurboV EVO, TurboV Remote and CPU Level Up are just a few ways of overclocking on this board. Each user will have his/her way of adding extra performance ASUS just wants to give you options.....and plenty of them. Two other reasons we like this board is the newly implemented USB 3.0 and SATA II standards. Yes, there are many motherboards that offer these, but ASUS upped them as they used a faster PCIe lane to achieve better performance. According to ASUS, this means an increase to near 5Gbps over USB 3.0 connections. Why would anyone shy away from such a motherboard? It could because of the price. However, ASUS releases several motherboards based on each chipset. With the P55 chipset, the price range spans from $130 to close to $300. The -E Deluxe is nearer the higher end of this price range at $240. Each of these motherboards in the P55 series have different features that will appeal to the different buyers. Features like USB 3.0, SATA III, dual LAN, phase power regulators, eSATA and overclocking remote are just a few. Besides the pricing, we loved what the ASUS P7P55-E Deluxe had to offer and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a solid, stable and easily overclocking motherboard. Ugyanakkor átnézve az árlistákat azt kell, hogy mondjuk, még ez tűnik a legésszerűbb megoldásnak az „olcsóbb drága” alaplapok között. A P7P55D-E Pro a Gigabyte P55-UD4 árában kapható, azonban van rajta USB 3.0, illetve 6 Gbps-os SATA, ráadásul tuningban is van olyan jó, mint a Gigabyte, ha nem jobb. Nyilván a két új szabvány sokaknak egyelőre nem túl lényeges szempont, érdemes lenne várni, amíg ezek elterjednek. Ár/teljesítmény, vagy mondhatnánk azt is, hogy ár/körítés szempontjából a P7P55D-E Pro nem igazán rúg labdába az MSI P55-GD65 mellett, de ez már csak így szokott lenni, az alacsonyabban árazottak mindig jobban megérik. Az ötvenezres lapok mezőnyében azonban ajánlott választás. A P7P55D Premium 70 000 forintos ára meghökkentő annak fényében, hogy lényegében ugyanazt tudja, mint kisebbik társa, és csak néhány, finoman fogalmazva is könnyedén nélkülözhető extrával gazdagabb (Stack Cool, távirányító, „milliónyi” fázis), sőt van, amiben még le is van maradva, ugyanis nem támogatja az USB 3.0-t. A Premium egyetlen tulajdonsága miatt lehet vonzó, ez pedig az Express Gate, de ez aligha csábítja majd a tömegeket arra, hogy megvegyék életük legdrágább alaplapját. A SaberTooth 55i egy érdekes színfolt az Asus termékpalettáján, fantasztikusan hangzó újító technológiáival az ember azt hinné, hogy az UFO-k hozták; pedig a mindennapi használat során nem tud többet, mint a P7P55D-E Pro, sőt a Premiumhoz hasonlóan ez sem támogatja az új szabványokat, pedig még drágább is. A SaberTooth a stabilitást és megbízhatóságot garantáló alkatrészein felül a Drive Xperttel nyújt többet házon belüli riválisainál, ez azonban szintén nem tűnik egy nélkülözhetetlen funkciónak; a P55-ös PCH is támogatja a RAID 0 és 1 módot, és ezeket még lehet rendszerlemezként is használni. Ami pedig a stabilitást, kompatibilitást és tartósságot, megbízhatóságot illeti, ilyen magas szinten keveseknek van rá valóban szüksége. Ezt a lapot speciális, szélsőséges igénybevételnek kitett felhasználási területekre szánták. A Maximus III Formula meglepetésünkre olcsóbb, mint a P7P55D Premium, pedig szerintünk a Maximus többet ér, több szempontból is. Bár nincsenek rajta 6 Gbps-os SATA portok, adnak hozzá egy normális hangkártyát. Tuningban tud annyit, mint drágább testvére, a TurboV EVO távirányító pedig nem az a kellék, ami különösebben hiányozna nekünk. A MemPerfect jó ötletnek tűnik, csak még nem igazán kiforrott. A ProbeIt hasznos lesz azok számára, akik hajlandóak kiadni ennyi pénzt egy alaplapért. A GameFirstről legyen elég annyi, hogy létezik, a ROG Connect viszont még akár éppenséggel hasznos is lehet. A Premium és a Maximus nyilván más-más felhasználói rétegeket céloz meg. A Maximust leginkább az MSI P55-GD80-hoz hasonlíthatnánk, hiszen mindkettőt hasonló elvek mentén tervezték. Ugyan az Asus lapja jó 8000 forinttal drágább, azért nekünk a felsorolt pozitívumok miatt tetszett.
