Test: Einzeltest: MSI Big Bang XPower Intel X58 Motherboard
Zitat: The MSI Big Bang XPower is the eighth X58 motherboard I´ve owned. The first seven ranged from econo class (if you can consider any X58 board an economy board) to deluxe class. Some boards had nicer features than others, some had nicer accessory bundles, the last few had USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s. But none of these boards stood out from the others. If I´m not mistaken, I ended up getting the same max overclock on my processor on each one. The XPower does stand out from the rest… if for no other reason that I easily overclocked my i7 920 to its highest clock to date. But there are definitely other reasons. MSI has gone to the extra expense of using Mil-Spec components, using the coolest running and longest lasting components available and adding little niceties like the 8mm heatpipe and Dr MOS. This isn´t some warmed over X58, a two year old board with USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s added, this is a new X58 built from the ground up. Of course it will allow you some six-core goodness when coupled with the new Core i7 980X Extreme Gulftown. But if the Gulftown is out of your budget, the XPower would be a fine board to couple with any of the Bloomfield i7s. The accessory bundle is the largest I´ve received with a board. As far as the cables, expansion brackets, and other typical stuff, there are more than you should need. SoundBlaster fans should appreciate the sound card, which utilizes EAX 5.0. The OC Dashboard LED display goes far beyond any display I´ve received with a board, all which only displayed the debug information. This not only displays that information, it serves as a remote overclocking tool and a hardware monitor. For those overclockers that like other overclocking options besides the BIOS, this board takes care of you. The OC Genie is a one-second overclocker, just push the button to activate the onboard chip. And if you prefer overclocking in the BIOS, it is organized fairly well, and is stable enough to get excellent overclocks with most settings on “Auto”. The board sells for $279.99 after rebate at my favorite online retailer. You can spend more than that for an upper-end X58 board… a lot more. And I really don´t think it will be better built or have better features than the XPower. The MSI Big Bang XPower earns the OCIA.net Gold Seal of Approval.
