The most obvious one I´ve already pointed out: Cable management. There are 10 cables alone for plugging in your fans, and then there´s also the main power cable as well as some additional ones for whatever purpose (Due to a lack of instructions, I was perplexed by certain wires with no obvious usage I can only presume they are thermometers in disguise). This huge amount of cables is quite disproportionate to the space saving device itself. The second problem is in the space-saving design. Whilst the Sentry 2 has been built to fit in a 5.25" bay, it does not use the entirety of the bay, instead using just the front half so that only 2 screws are necessary to keep the Sentry 2 in place. People using a screwless case might find that the device doesn´t fit well. Toolless cases are usually designed with the idea that the whole bay will be used so a smaller fitting device such as the Sentry 2 may end up being somewhat lopsided without the intervention of cellotape. These complaints aside, the Sentry 2 is manageable, easy to use and simple enough that it doesn´t need an operating manual to use or install. It´s functionable straight out of the box and doesn´t require any software to operate. What it all comes down to though is the need for a fan controller. If you´re operating a PC with 3-5 fans for optimal cooling, then this is most likely the fan controller for you. At £25, it´s a tad expensive for something that doesn´t do that much, but the cool feeling from the touch interface is probably enough to alleviate this. My final rating is 7/10. Whilst it´s easy to use and functions great, the cable management was a letdown.

Alle basisvoorzieningen zijn aanwezig, maar ook temperatuursensoren en warmtebeveiliging die in te stellen zijn op de graad nauwkeurig. Helaas zijn de vele kabels aan de korte kant en niet mooi afgewerkt en dienen de temperatuursensoren vastgezet te worden met niet lang houdende stickers. Het 5,25"-baytje ziet er verder strak uit, de zwarte kleur past goed bij dvd-branders en de pasvorm is uitstekend. Als laatste is er het prijs-verhaal. Deze controller is iets duurder dan fancontrollers van andere merken, maar je krijgt er wel een touchscreen met alle informatie voor terug in plaats van draaiknoppen met hooguit een temperatuur erbij. Met een prijs van 30 euro is de fancontroller goed geprijsd en valt het in een ruim segment van andere merken. Hou jij niet van draaiknoppen, denk dan goed na over deze fancontroller, met name gezien de controller toch een paar flaws in het design heeft, met name wat kabellengte betreft en het vastzetten van de temperatuursensoren. Het zou handig zijn als de snoeren 20 cm langer zouden zijn en er een oplossing komt waardoor stickers overbodig worden. Door deze fouten is de waardering ´redelijk´.

Turn on some Bad Company II, crank up the overclock on your CPU and GPU and watch as the auto control senses the increase in heat and compensates with increased fan speed, or manually set it yourself, which ever floats your boat. My biggest issue with the Sentry II is when you rotate through your fans individually you get the temperature readout for that fans item. Kind of makes you feel the need to assign a temperature probe with a fan. You do not have to of course. You may not have a fan near your ram, but you can stick a probe on it. The problem is that if the ram temp picks up and you are in auto control then the associated fan picks up speed even though it can do nothing for the temperature of the ram. I know we are here to control the fan speeds, which in auto is related to the temperature of something near it, if I want temps for other parts of the case, or other components, get a separate temp monitor. I found the Sentry II to be an excellent product, installation was a snap, packaging and the care of the contents were amazing and the ease of use is simplistic. This is a feature packed very inexpensive item. You gain control of the nosiest parts of your PC, the fans, and you can directly control them, or let the Sentry II do it for you in an intuitive auto mode. I am going to keep this in my PC for years to come.
