Test: Einzeltest: OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W
Zitat: As we discussed in our introduction, whether you prefer your power supply to be modular or not is a personal thing, dependant on what you value when it comes to building a system. For us, modular power supplies still have a lot to offer thanks to that relatively hassle-free cable management, and of course OCZ´s ModXStream Pro fits into that mindset nicely. In terms of its basic specification, there can be little complaint about this 500 Watt unit - Support for SLI is perhaps a bit too much of a boast in an era where modern high-end GPUs require two power connectors apiece, but there´s still enough connectivity and sufficient juice to run a solitary high-end board comfortably in a powerful system, which is all you can ask of a 500 Watt unit realistically. Add in lots of Serial ATA connectivity, the usual set of ATX +12V suspects and a decent fistful of Molex connectors and pretty much any system you can imagine building should be handled comfortably by this particular unit. The remainder of the ModXStream Pro´s design is also solid without being spectacular - Its 135mm fan is quiet but effective, and the overall look and feel of the unit is solid and not unpleasant; as we mentioned earlier, you can´t really expect a PSU´s basic design to go too far beyond being a metal box of components to the naked eye. The real beauty of the ModXStream Pro 500W is in its price - Although it isn´t the cheapest 500 Watt power supply you´ll find, it isn´t far off, and this is quite a feather in OCZ´s cap given the quality of this unit and how it compares in pricing terms to some of its rivals. If you´re looking for a new power supply in this kind of wattage range, then the ModXStream Pro 500W is not far short of a bargain provided it fits your connectivity needs - It might not set the pulse racing (it is a power supply after all!), but it does the job it sets out to do and does it comfortably, which makes it well worth a look.
