While the OCZ Vertex boasts all of these advantages, it´s performance where this offering really catches the eye - Although we haven´t spent time with many SSDs just yet here at Elite Bastards, the Vertex is the fastest by a country mile and then some, with excellent write performance available to back up the blistering read speeds that we´ve come to expect from practically any SSD. The theoretical and benchmark numbers say it all really, but even from our every-day real-world usage of the Vertex we soon came to love the fast boot up and application load times, while also remaining impressed at installation times when it comes to installing Microsoft Windows and Office as just a couple of examples. OCZ´s custom firmware and use of an Indilinx "Barefoot" controller here have clearly paid dividends. The addition of TRIM support and garbage collection routines to this range of drives also means that Windows 7 users shouldn´t have to worry about performance degradation over time - Indeed, during our testing we saw no drops in speed from our OCZ drive while the rival SSD used for comparison showed some notable performance drops after it had been battered with data for a while, making for an excellent example as to why hunting out a drive with TRIM support is recommended these days assuming you´re using Microsoft´s latest and greatest OS. This brings us to pricing, and at this point whether the OCZ Vertex offers value for money is very much in the eye of the beholder. 60GB of storage for £200 still sounds like a lot when we´re so used to grabbing a Terabyte here and there for less than half that cost, but if high storage capacities aren´t your primary concern then in performance terms alone we´d say that this £200 is worth every penny. If you´re running a relatively "bare bones" system in terms of installed applications then 60GB actually offers you a surprising amount to spare (running the Vertex on a standard Windows 7 Home Premium install with Office 2007, Paint Shop Pro X3 and a handful of other applications we still have almost 40GB to spare) to make for a decent sweet spot in terms of storage space versus cost, but of course if you want to dump a couple of hundred Gigabytes of Steam games onto the drive too you´re straight out of luck. Assuming you don´t need lots of storage however, but want to make the plunge into the world of SSDs to enjoy the silence, lack of moving parts and (above all) a huge performance increase in both read and write times over a traditional hard disk, then the OCZ Vertex 60GB is a thing of beauty indeed that is well and truly worthy of your consideration.

A Corsair M64 és az OCZ Vertex több órányi használat után is csak 35-40 fokig melegedett (kb. 25 fokos szobában) asztalra téve, tehát nem számítógépházban, ez szerintünk jó eredmény. Meglepetésre az OCZ Apex ennél jóval melegebb volt, elérte a 45-50 fokot is, valószínuleg azért, mert a RAID0 miatt több chip található a burkolat alatt, ezek pedig több hot bocsátanak ki. El kell még mondanunk, hogy az Intel által fejlesztett és szakmai berkekben jól ismert IOMeter programot is bevetettük, azonban még elég kevés az eredményünk és kissé hihetetlenek is, ezért ezeket egyelore jegeltük. Az IOMeterrel le lehet mérni, hogy egy adott környezetben (amit mi paraméterezhetünk be, százalékosan megadva az írások, olvasások számát, egyideju lekérések számát) a tesztelt háttértár milyen sebességre képes, a végeredmény legjellemzobb mértékegysége az IO/sec, azaz a muveletek/másodperc arányszám. A program szerint a Corsair M64 és az OCZ Apex az adatbázis, a file szerver és a workstation beállítások mellett is 30 alatti értéket produkált. Ezzel szemben egy Samsung F1-es merevlemez az NCQ aktiválása nélkül 70 és 140 közötti eredményt ér el, tehát jóval gyorsabb, de ami megdöbbento, hogy az OCZ Vertex a 2600 és 3100 közötti tartományban mozog, ergo gyakorlatilag agyonver mindent (az Intel X25-M-jét még nem tudtuk lemérni). Ebbol is látszik, hogy nagyon nem mindegy, milyen SSD-vel van dolgunk, MLC-s és MLC-s között is óriási különbségek vannak. A Corsair M64 64 GB-os változata éppen úgy szerepelt, mint az elozo, 4 SSD-t bemutató cikkünkben található típusok, úgy tunik ez az átlag-SSD, tehát lényegében semmi különlegessel nem szolgál. Akkor azt tanácsoltuk, hogy a tesztelt típusok közül azt vegyük meg, amelyik olcsóbb és amelyikhez jobb garanciális feltételekkel tudunk hozzájutni, ez igaz továbbra is. Az OCZ Apex érdekes belso felépítése ellenére semmi különlegeset nem mutatott fel, az átlag MLC-s típusoknál nem volt minden esetben gyorsabb, és amikor gyorsabb volt, akkor sem estünk le a székrol teljesítménye láttán. A Corsair M64-gyel szembeni 16 000 forintos felárat szerintünk nem éri meg, ahhoz konstans 35-40%-kal jobb teljesítményt kellene nyújtania, de erre nem képes. Az OCZ Vertex az elso olyan modell, amelyik rendesen megszorongatta az Intel X25-M-et, ez egy tényleg komoly, nagyteljesítményu SSD. Bár az egyenletesen nagy sebességet nem volt képes úgy tartani, mint az X25-M, és néhány esetben alig volt gyorsabb, mint a feleannyiba kerülo típusok, ennek ellenére azért elfogadnánk egyet. Mellette szól az is, hogy az Intelt idehaza sehol sem lehet kapni, de ha mégis, a Vertex a külföldi árak alapján jóval olcsóbb.
