Test: Einzeltest: XFX Radeon HD 4770 512MB video card
Zitat: Having already seen Radeon HD 4770 parts from another couple of vendors before, we came into this review already knowing what to expect in performance terms, and unsurprisingly XFX´s offering didn´t disappoint in this respect - Gaming at 1680x1050 offers little trouble for this relatively diminutive little card, while even 1920x1200 is a definite option without anti-aliasing, and occasionally a possibility with the extra eye candy enabled to boot. What did surprise us a little however is that the release of AMD´s Catalyst 9.5 driver has added a little extra sheen to these performance metrics in certain titles, giving us some nice little frame rate boosts in titles such as Fallout 3 which are certainly most welcome, and it´s good to see AMD doing their bit to optimise performance for new parts as they appear as quickly as possible. Of course, perhaps the biggest question surrounding XFX´s particular take on the Radeon HD 4770 is whether the company´s decision to stick with AMD´s original reference design benefits it all, and to be perfectly honest the answer is - I´m not sure. On a personal level I do prefer the original cooler design - It may be bigger, but the fact that it exhausts hot air out of the chassis is a definite plus, leaving me wishing only that it did more to cool the board´s memory modules (something which would surely have improved the overclocking prowess of our sample too). XFX´s choice of cooler also holds an edge in both temperature and noise level terms, although in both cases this difference is so slight I wouldn´t place it high in my list of considerations when picking out which Radeon HD 4770 part to purchase. Where XFX have impressed however (and in line with what we´ve seen from some of their other AMD-based offerings) is when it comes to pricing - Despite using this alledgedly more expensive cooler and board design which was dropped by other AIBs on account of its cost, and despite bundling a copy of the fabulously fun DirectX 10.1 title H.A.W.X. with the card, XFX´s Radeon HD 4770 holds its own in pricing terms with competing solutions and designs admirably if you´re willing to shop around. Even if you´re not too worried about which cooler or design is better, the quality of XFX´s overall bundle might be a decent draw if you can pick it up for the same price as other more sparsely kitted out offerings.
