Im vorliegenden Artikel werden daher die Verlustzahlen von acht niedersächsischen Infanterieregimentern, die bei Kriegsausbruch in zwei Divisionen der 2. Armee formiert waren, beleuchtet. Diese Einheiten nahmen gemeinsam an der sogenannten Grenzschlacht, der Schlacht von St. Quentin (Guise) und der Marneschlacht teil. Im weiteren Kriegsverlauf wurden beide Divisionen neu formiert, wobei einige der Regimenter sowohl im Westen wie im Osten kämpften, während andere während des gesamten Krieges im Westen verblieben.
