In recent years the edition of the Schumann correspondence has revealed a quantity of hitherto largely unknown sources. This offers a new perspective on the family, artistic and social networks which Clara Schumann built up during her unique career and which supported her. Representatives include her mother Marianne Bargiel, about whom little was previously known, her most important artistic partner, Joseph Joachim, the Mendelssohn family and her children and pupils.
