Olms Presse Clara Schumann. Musik als Lebensform
Olms Presse Clara Schumann. Musik als Lebensform
13 September 2019 will be the 200th anniversary of the birth of the most famous 19th-century female German musician. In recent years the edition of the Schumann correspondence has revealed a quantity of hitherto largely unknown sources. This offers a new perspective on the family, artistic and social networks which Clara Schumann built up during her unique career and which supported her. Representatives include her mother Marianne Bargiel, about whom little was previously known, her most important artistic partner, Joseph Joachim, the Mendelssohn family and her children and pupils. For generations Clara Schumann was a stylistic influence on account of her method of piano playing and her creative way of putting together her programmes. Her compositions have appeared in modern editions and are available as recordings. The author, musicologist Professor Beatrix Borchard is one of the leading experts on Clara Schumann.

Authorhouse Basic Spanish for Police Officers by a Police Officer A1006132057
Being that the author works for the Phoenix Police Department, the majority of Spanish speakers there are from Mexico. This book was written using the author's experience in talking to Spanish speaking subjects living in or visiting Phoenix. The author is not a Spanish professor but wrote this book focusing on terminology that will be understood on the street. The book contains closed ended questions for a variety of investigations including assault/domestic violence, robbery, stolen vehicles, burglary, drug possession/sales cases, traffic stops, traffic accidents. The most important part of this book is the high risk stop/contact commands. This book is written for the officers who have little to no understanding/knowledge of the Spanish language, as well as offering information to those who do have a basic understanding/knowledge of Spanish. It is the author's desire that this book allow officers to conduct their jobs safer.

VDM Fensom, G: Coming To Know Reflective Practice A1007574344
Open the door to most college classrooms, and you'll find experts in their fields--physics, mathematics, psychology--readying students for the 21st century. What you will rarely see, however, are professors who have ever been formally educated in how to teach. For decades, teacher education programs have prepared pre-college practitioners, yet many institutions of higher learning today offer little to no preparation for the teaching roles of faculty. This book examines the development of future faculty in a unique teaching seminar program designed to fill the gap. Using ethnographic methods, Coming To Know Reflective Practice describes, through a case-study approach, the teaching lives of four doctoral students as they engage in their first year of supervised university teaching. Each student's emerging understandings about teaching and learning, and their subsequent effect on classroom practice, are revealed. Educators and administrators interested in future faculty initiatives and the role reflection plays in teaching development will find this book a rich resource.

W. W. Norton & Company Devil and Mrs. Gooch A1076870639
W. W. Norton & Company Devil and Mrs. Gooch A1076870639
In the storm-drenched city of Verdigris, home to indolent sorcerers and undead hotels, something is dreadfully wrong. Buildings are starting to crumble due to the kidnapping of their hobs, the many-legged house spirits that keep each home in order. In such times, one would ordinarily blame the Devil, but he has been enchanted by a new and enticing evil: The jackbooted villainy of Gwendolyn Gooch, who has taken the hobs for her latest diabolical scheme-apartments for rent. As the hobs retrofit the gaudy Gooch Towers, the fate of the city lies in the hands of the arboreal Professor Green; his rare, complete set of the Household Gramarye; and its famulus, the prim Mrs. Bobkins. A delightful new novel in a series "perfectly cut to fit the Pratchett-shaped hole in my heart" (C. M. Waggoner), The Devil and Mrs. Gooch is witty, imaginative, and brimming with charm. The Household Gramarye series may be read in any order you wish, as wizards care little for strict sequentiality.

'Smart, engaging and funny. It will make you question everything you think you know about what you want' Caroline Criado Perez, author of Invisible Women Be ambitious; find everlasting love; look after your health ... There are countless stories about how we ought to live our lives. These narratives can make our lives easier, and they might sometimes make us happier too. But they can also trap us and those around us. In Happy Ever After, bestselling happiness expert Professor Paul Dolan draws on a variety of studies ranging over wellbeing, inequality and discrimination to bust the common myths about our sources of happiness. He shows that there can be many unexpected paths to lasting fulfilment. Some of these might involve not going into higher education, choosing not to marry, rewarding acts rooted in self-interest and caring a little less about living forever. By freeing ourselves from the myth of the perfect life, we might each find a life worth living.

Pickwick Publications Faith and Love in Ignatius of Antioch A1043195224
Pickwick Publications Faith and Love in Ignatius of Antioch A1043195224
""Faith is the beginning of life, love is the end."" ""All things together are good, if you believe with love."" ""Faith and love are everything. Nothing is better than them."" In his seven letters, Ignatius of Antioch puts the concepts of faith and love side by side in novel and gripping combinations. Olavi Tarvainen illuminates Ignatius's terse statements in this close study of his letters. In doing so, he sheds new light on an understudied theme in early Christianity. Yet he moves beyond the question of what these words collectively mean to ask how Ignatius employs them individually. By doing so, faith and love become a new lens through which to view the entire scope of Ignatius's theology in fresh and exciting ways. ""The letters of Ignatius of Antioch are an ever-fresh source of inspiration for Christians and scholars of the early church. The themes of faith and love that he integrated and taught to his flock are central to our understanding of how the Gospel was proclaimed and received in the apostolic and post-apostolic period, and this important study, finally published in English after half a century, will open our eyes to a witness that has too often been neglected."" --Gerald Bray, Research Professor of Divinity, Beeson Divinity School ""In this clear and insightful book, Olavi Tarvainen uses faith and love as lenses through which to view the major facets of Ignatius's theology. The result is a lively and readable exposition of what Ignatius says about such key themes as right belief, unity, prayer, justification, humility, mutual love, and ethics. We owe a debt of gratitude to the translator, Jonathon Lookadoo, for bringing this gem of scholarship to a wider readership."" --Paul Trebilco, Professor, Department of Theology and Religion, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand ""This new issue in translation of Tarvainen's remarkable book published in 1967 is most welcome, and is a distinctive evangelical contribution to Patristic studies. Whilst in no way neglecting historico-critical issues of background and authorship, the author focuses on faith and love in Ignatius, in the light of Pauline and Johannine theology. A most welcome re-adjustment of focus in Ignatian studies. --Allen Brent, MA, DD (Cantab), Professor of Early Christian History and Iconography, King's College, London; Professore Invitato, Augustinianum, Lateran University, Rome ""Fifty years ago, Olavi Tarvainen penned a masterful little treatise on the thought of Ignatius of Antioch in his native Finnish and had it published in German. Writing within the Lutheran tradition but with an ecumenical outlook, Tarvainen convincingly demonstrates that the various elements of Ignatius's theology cohere around the core principles of faith and love. Jonathon Lookadoo's able translation now makes this valuable study available to an English-speaking audience."" --Gregory R. Vall, Professor of Scripture, Notre Dame Seminary Olavi Tarvainen was a Finnish church historian who studied Ignatius of Antioch, Martin Luther, and Finnish revivalism. Jonathon Lookadoo is a PhD student at the University of Otago who studies Ignatius of Antioch and early Christianity.

In February 1891, London, Enola Holmes-the much younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes-is attending a burial when she hears the faint sound of a handbell in the graveyard.
