The feel-good book packed with practical tips, hacks and habits to learn how to work with your neurodivergent brain, not against it - from the author of the smash-hit book on ADHD, autism and neurodivergence, UNMASKED. ' The book truly changed my life ... a must read for newly diagnosed neurodivergent people!' 5-star reader review Following on from her acclaimed book, unmasked, autistic and ADHD creator, writer and consultant Ellie Middleton returns with the empowering and practical guide to break free from expectation and be more you. In each chapter, she writes about the eight executive functions that neurodivergent people struggle with including working memory , prioritisation and emotional regulation . Written in easy-to-read, bite-sized chunks whizzy brains like hers, Ellie shares 40 simple tips for readers to try out, including: · Creating a launch pad to remember the essentials when you leave the house · Drawing a car park of ideas to help visualise your thoughts and manage impulse control · The 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 mindfulness technique to prevent spiralling and regulate emotions · Breaking up each day into Four Quadrants to approach every day with more flexibility This isn't another journal or planner that claims to organize your entire life (Ellie is the first to admit that she doesn't have things under control 100% of the time). This also is not a book about how to fit into the neurotypical way of doing things (aka masking). Instead, Ellie reveals why society tells us that we 'should' do things (read: patriarchy, ableism, White supremacy) and shows us how we can all free ourselves of those expectations, feel empowered and, ultimately, be more YOU. Praise for Ellie Middleton and How to Be You: 'This book will change lives ! A cracking read and a must for folks with brains who do things differently' Heidi Mavir, bestselling author of Your Child is Not Broken 'I loved it. I'm so impressed by Ellie's courage and wisdom, this book is comforting and clever, but most of all kind' Daisy Buchanan, author of Insatiable and Careering ' Reassuring , liberating and empowering ' Emma Reed Turrell, psychotherapist and author of Please Yourself 'An excellent antidote to all the 'shoulds' that neurodivergent people get from society' 5-star reader review ' Massively validating and educational' 5-star reader review ' Inspiring and insightful' 5-star reader review 'A book that everyone should read' 5-star reader review

Included are detailed instructions to make your own stay-wet palette and how to combine thickening mediums with acrylic paint to achieve the ideal consistency. There are simple practice exercises to get you comfortable using a palette knife, mixing colours and blending with a brush. Melissa explains how to sculpt and control the paint to create a variety of stunning textural effects. She demonstrates several mark making techniques that you can use alone or in combination to create your own expressive textured paintings, as well as an introduction to colour theory and tips on composition. Once you feel confident with the tools and paint, you'll learn how to create twelve different textured landscape, floral, and abstract paintings with step-by-step instructions. This series of paintings was designed to help you put all of the techniques and colour theory you've learned into beautiful paintings of your own. Melissa generously shares her knowledge and expert tips gained from years of experience developing her unique approach to palette knife painting. This book will become a trusted resource in your studio, one that you can refer back to again and again as you grow and evolve as an artist. Random House LLC US Your Brain on Art A1064140773
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER A life-altering, science-backed exploration of the healing power of art, which has now been proven to help lower stress, supercharge learning and creativity, extend your lifespan, and combat loneliness. “This book blew my mind!”—Angela Duckworth, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Grit A BLOOMBERG BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR Finalist for the Inc. Non-Obvious Book Award and the Porchlight Business Book Award What is art? Many of us think of the arts as entertainment—a luxury of some kind. In Your Brain on Art, authors Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross show how activities from painting and dancing to expressive writing, architecture, and more are essential to our lives. We’re on the verge of a cultural shift in which the arts can deliver potent, accessible, and proven solutions for the well-being of everyone. Magsamen and Ross offer compelling research that shows how engaging in an art project for as little as forty-five minutes reduces the stress hormone cortisol, no matter your skill level, and just one art experience per month can extend your life by ten years. They expand our understanding of how playing music builds cognitive skills and enhances learning; the vibrations of a tuning fork create sound waves to counteract stress; virtual reality can provide cutting-edge therapeutic benefit; and interactive exhibits dissolve the boundaries between art and viewers, engaging all of our senses and strengthening memory. Doctors have even been prescribing museum visits to address loneliness, dementia, and many other physical and mental health concerns. Your Brain on Art is a portal into this new understanding about how the arts and aesthetics can help us transform traditional medicine, build healthier communities, and mend an aching planet. Featuring conversations with artists such as David Byrne, Renée Fleming, and evolutionary biologist E. O. Wilson, Your Brain on Art is an authoritative guide to neuroaesthetics. The book weaves a tapestry of breakthrough research, insights from multidisciplinary pioneers, and compelling stories from people who are using the arts to enhance their lives.

Macmillan USA Factfulness A1046636971
Macmillan USA Factfulness A1046636971
INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER "One of the most important books I've ever read-an indispensable guide to thinking clearly about the world." - Bill Gates "Hans Rosling tells the story of 'the secret silent miracle of human progress' as only he can. But Factfulness does much more than that. It also explains why progress is so often secret and silent and teaches readers how to see it clearly." -Melinda Gates "Factfulness by Hans Rosling, an outstanding international public health expert, is a hopeful book about the potential for human progress when we work off facts rather than our inherent biases." - Former U.S. President Barack Obama Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of only carrying opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends-what percentage of the world's population live in poverty; why the world's population is increasing; how many girls finish school-we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess teachers, journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers. In Factfulness, Professor of International Health and global TED phenomenon Hans Rosling, together with his two long-time collaborators, Anna and Ola, offers a radical new explanation of why this happens . They reveal the ten instincts that distort our perspective -from our tendency to divide the world into two camps (usually some version of us and them) to the way we consume media (where fear rules) to how we perceive progress (believing that most things are getting worse). Our problem is that we don't know what we don't know, and even our guesses are informed by unconscious and predictable biases. It turns out that the world, for all its imperfections, is in a much better state than we might think. That doesn't mean there aren't real concerns. But when we worry about everything all the time instead of embracing a worldview based on facts, we can lose our ability to focus on the things that threaten us most. Inspiring and revelatory, filled with lively anecdotes and moving stories, Factfulness is an urgent and essential book that will change the way you see the world and empower you to respond to the crises and opportunities of the future. --- "This book is my last battle in my life-long mission to fight devastating ignorance...Previously I armed myself with huge data sets, eye-opening software, an energetic learning style and a Swedish bayonet for sword-swallowing. It wasn't enough. But I hope this book will be." Hans Rosling, February 2017.

Random House N.Y. Another Kind of Freedom A1076157262
In a world of endless distractions and quick fixes that leave us wanting, beloved Buddhist nun Pema Chödrön, author of When Things Fall Apart, reveals why true freedom arises not in escape but in developing our natural capacity for presence, openness, and wholehearted acceptance. What if the freedom you seek isn’t found by changing your circumstances but by embracing life exactly as it is? Pema Chödrön goes back to her very foundations in her latest and possibly most important book. With the spiritual classic The Myth of Freedom as the touchstone, Pema invites us to look beyond the “myth of freedom”—the idea that we can escape discomfort—and to work compassionately and wisely with what keeps us stuck. Drawing from the seminal work from her beloved teacher Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Pema explores how meditation, mindfulness, and radical self-acceptance can transform our struggles, neuroses, and pain into gateways to awakening. “These were the teachings;” Pema says, “that inspired me most in my early years of practicing Buddhism. They continue to inspire me now and have influenced all the teachings I’ve given over the years.” With her characteristic humor, practical wisdom, and compassionate insight, she shows us how to make friends with our minds, work skillfully with emotions, and open our hearts to the richness of human experience. Inspiring and accessible, this book is an essential companion for anyone longing for genuine freedom, clarity, and connection in a world of uncertainty and change.

Tevoi The Possible Fiction A1079384455
Tevoi The Possible Fiction A1079384455
Why "imagination"? Years ago, I decided to document the experience of the General Authority for Tourism and National Heritage and its journey in community building and organization since its inception on 12 Muharram 1421 AH (April 17, 2000 CE), and my honor of being appointed as its first Secretary-General, establishing the General Secretariat, and later as head of the special region for some of its branches until 18 Rabi' al-Thani 1440 AH (December 27, 2018 CE). I wanted to present this multifaceted experience, with all its intersections and issues with which the Authority collaborated, in a comprehensive book; because this work offers benefits that can be compiled in similar experiences, given the advanced state of the tourism and national heritage industry today; it has reached horizons that even people optimistically imagined, and this has been achieved after we have progressed beyond what is before us in the field of national tourism on the path of growth; Convinced that tourism and national heritage are essential elements of future development and fundamental pillars of the national economy and light employment opportunities, and effective tools for fostering understanding of one's homeland, its people, its civilization, and its unique characteristics rarely found in one country, this book is primarily a tribute to all who worked with us and participated in the most significant events and developments that marked this important phase in the history of national tourism. It will subsequently pave the way for future initiatives to preserve national cultural heritage. Heritage Foundation (Non-Profit)

Random House N.Y. Numbers Don't Lie A1059132828
"Vaclav Smil is my favorite author… Numbers Don't Lie takes everything that makes his writing great and boils it down into an easy-to-read format. I unabashedly recommend this book to anyone who loves learning."—Bill Gates, GatesNotes From the author of How the World Really Works, an essential guide to understanding how numbers reveal the true state of our world—exploring a wide range of topics including energy, the environment, technology, transportation, and food production. Vaclav Smil's mission is to make facts matter. An environmental scientist, policy analyst, and a hugely prolific author, he is Bill Gates' go-to guy for making sense of our world. In Numbers Don't Lie, Smil answers questions such as: What's worse for the environment—your car or your phone? How much do the world's cows weigh (and what does it matter)? And what makes people happy? From data about our societies and populations, through measures of the fuels and foods that energize them, to the impact of transportation and inventions of our modern world—and how all of this affects the planet itself—in Numbers Don't Lie, Vaclav Smil takes us on a fact-finding adventure, using surprising statistics and illuminating graphs to challenge conventional thinking. Packed with fascinating information and memorable examples, Numbers Don't Lie reveals how the US is leading a rising worldwide trend in chicken consumption, that vaccination yields the best return on investment, and why electric cars aren't as great as we think (yet). Urgent and essential, with a mix of science, history, and wit—all in bite-sized chapters on a broad range of topics— Numbers Don't Lie inspires readers to interrogate what they take to be true.
