Vermilion Bimbo A1075389063
The bold, inspiring, and empowering new book on the possibility of modern womanhood - helping you to ditch the labels, find your voice, and reclaim your confidence. 'Ashley is a much-needed force .' Jameela Jamil ' The book I've been waiting for my whole life.' Bryony Gordon 'A smart, brave and unapologetic reclaiming of female power.' Katie Piper OBE ------- Bossy. Frigid. Spinster. Sl*t. Mumsy. Milf. Bimbo. The English language has a seemingly infinite number of judgemental and hypocritical words to describe women and their life choices. We can't win, no matter what we do. In BIMBO, Ashley James unpacks the labels that box women in, and the systems that keep them there. A fierce advocate for women's rights, whether on ITV's This Morning or online, Ashley draws on raw personal stories, cultural analysis, and sharp humour to unpack the systems that profit from women's insecurity. From 'bossy' little girls, 'tarty' teens, to mothers who 'let themselves go', and 'left-on-the-shelf' single women, Ashley asks a radical question: What if we stopped trying to be acceptable, and started being free? Bold, honest, and deeply validating, this book is a rallying cry for every woman who's ever felt too much - or not enough. This is a call to women to stop shrinking, stop competing, and start rising - together. A book to be shared, discussed, and cherished, BIMBO is the powerful and empowering must-read and a beacon of hope for a better future. Praise for BIMBO: 'Raw and gloriously unapologetic ... a rallying cry for every woman' Carol Vorderman, award-winning broadcaster and writer 'Pulls apart the issues facing the modern woman and puts them back together again with brilliantly considered thought and context. Ignore this Bimbo at your peril .' Ellie Taylor, comedian and writer ' Honest, brave and fiercely validating ' Alex Light, bestselling author of You Are Not a Before Picture ' Essential reading for every woman ' Em Clarkson, activist, presenter, and author ' Whip smart ' Red Magazine

Quercus Publishing Plc When Death Takes Something From You Give It Back A1053288137
Extraordinary. It is about death, but I can think of few books which have such life. It shows us what love is.' Max Porter, author of Grief is the Thing With Feathers and Lanny 'There is no one quite like Naja Marie Aidt' Valeria Luiselli 'Devastating, angry, challenging, fragmented and filled with the beautiful hope that the love we have for people continues into the world even after they're gone.' Culturefly 'Fragmented, poetic, informative and truthful, Aidt faces the greatest loss we can ever know with all the force of great elegy writers like Anne Carson and Denise Riley. Essential.' Polly Clark, author of Larchfield and Tiger _______ "I raise my glass to my eldest son. His pregnant wife and daughter are sleeping above us. Outside, the March evening is cold and clear. 'To life!' I say as the glasses clink with a delicate and pleasing sound. My mother says something to the dog. Then the phone rings. We don't answer it. Who could be calling so late on a Saturday evening?" In March 2015, Naja Marie Aidt's 25-year-old son, Carl, died in a tragic accident. When Death Takes Something From You Give It Back is about losing a child. It is about formulating a vocabulary to express the deepest kind of pain. And it's about finding a way to write about a reality invaded by grief, lessened by loss. Faced with the sudden emptiness of language, Naja finds solace in the anguish of Joan Didion, Nick Cave, C.S. Lewis, Mallarmé, Plato and other writers who have suffered the deadening impact of loss. Their torment suffuses with her own as Naja wrestles with words and contests their capacity to speak for the depths of her sorrow. This palimpsest of mourning enables Naja to turn over the pathetic, precious transience of existence and articulates her greatest fear: to forget. The insistent compulsion to reconstruct the harrowing aftermath of Carl's death keeps him painfully present, while fragmented memories, journal entries and poetry inch her closer to piecing Carl's life together. Intensely moving and quietly devastating, this is what is it to be a family, what it is to love and lose, and what it is to treasure life in spite of death's indomitable resolve.

I discover there is always something interesting in every story I read and reread with my students. That something may be hidden. It takes not only expertise, but also love and sensitivity to direct children's mind into capturing the special moment. From there we may take their hands and guide them till their inquisitiveness is well aroused to pushing them into venture on their own through the wonderful avenues of reading. I questioned my heart, "Why not let kids tag along the time of the journey that stirred up your crave while leading you to the sources, reading and writing?" The answer came out in the form of a personal narrative, It's a Deer Story followed by two poetry links, The Old House and Prancing About. These accounts portray kids, unsatisfied vagabond mind, sitting in a classroom, or even parents at home stocked between budding dreams and every day house chores. It's a Deer Story shows how reading opened up to this reluctant little girl. I have met so many halfhearted readers like Michele! Identifying with the characters a youngster is reading about is essential to a youngster. That helps boost up his self-esteem while infusing into him a sense of emulation. For comprehension to be enlightened, the materials at hand have to sparkle. Use these books as Teacher Read Aloud! Read them before and after any activity, especially art and writing! Conduct reading lessons with these stories for their essence will help cover all the benchmarks! Or read them for the simple pleasure of reading! They do not tell stories, they give you chances to mingle with the characters, and they open doors. Enter and let your curious eyes gulp down the lively images that are popping up while crossing the Caribbean Sea. Just travel the world on the wings of words.

Bob Dylan has always regarded himself as a songwriter: 'I am my words,' he wrote in 1964. Distilling a lifetime's passion and study, leading Dylan author, Clinton Heylin charts the development and first moments of genius of this unique artist whose songs changed the world. From his first attempts at writing, Song to Bridget, in 1957, (apparently for Brigitte Bardot) Bob Dylan always aspired to poetry, yet his role as a writer rather than a performer of his own songs is often overlooked. In over fifty years of creativity he had penned some of the most iconic, and perfect, songs in popular history. Arriving in New York in 1961, the city had an enormous impact on the young artist and, as he established himself amongst the folk clubs and artists, he would produce songs that spoke for a whole generation: Blowing in the Wind, A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, The Times They Are a Changin', Like a Rolling Stone, and Forever Young. In Revolution in the Air Clinton Heylin recounts the story of each song as it is written, giving a full appreciation of the songs themselves as well as Dylan the emerging artist. Unlike any other book on Dylan, it charts his rise as a writer, where he gained his inspiration, the burst of energy which produced some of his most famous songs as well as the lesser known stories behind the more iconic verses. This is an essential book for anyone interested in Dylan and his place in literature. Informative, opinionated, packed with new insights and revelations, this is an instant classic.
