Libra Kitap Kadin - A Young Turk Magazine in the Second Constitutional Period 1908-1909 A1064130405
Libra Kitap Kadin - A Young Turk Magazine in the Second Constitutional Period 1908-1909 A1064130405
The Second Constitution intellectuals aimed to change not only the state but also the society. The Committee of Union and Progress saw women as the key to this change and decided to increase the public appearance of women as a sign of modernity, and to make public use of the female energy as an economic necessity. With the Declaration of Freedom, the image of the ideal woman as a good Muslim, a good wife and a good mother was imbued with the creative woman image who would raise the kids to civilize them with revolutionary principles such as freedom, equality, justice, and fraternity. Thessaloniki, the political and cultural center of the Young Turks, was also the experimental region for womens organizations through charity work. The most political of the three womens magazines during the Second Constitution period was Kadin which started to be published in Thessaloniki. Kadin tried to redefine womens public and private roles and duties, to cover the rhetoric of educating women and important political pointers. The objective of this book is to demonstrate how the Young Turk feminism was shaped by the solidarist politics of the Committee of Union and Progress under the vestige of conscientiousness and progress. This book aims to investigate constructions, and discourses about the Second Constitution Woman and how women got involved in these polities. It also claims that the establishment of the identity of the new woman that started with the Tanzimat period reform movements and continued until the Republican period goes back to the Second Constitution period.

Orion Publishing Group Her Secret Service A1069687503
Since the inception of the Secret Service Bureau back in 1909, women have worked at the very heart of British secret intelligence - yet their contributions have been all but written out of history. Now, drawing on private and previously-classified documents, leading historian Claire Hubbard-Hall brings their gripping true stories to life. From encoding orders and decrypting enemy messages to penning propaganda and infiltrating organisations, the women of British intelligence played a pivotal role in both the First and Second World Wars. Prepare to meet the true custodians of Britain's military secrets, from Kathleen Pettigrew, personal assistant to the Chief of MI6 Stewart Menzies, who late in life declared 'I was Miss Moneypenny, but with more power', to Jane Archer, the very first female MI5 officer who raised suspicions about the Soviet spy Kim Philby long before he was officially unmasked and Winifred Spink, the first female officer ever sent to Russia in 1916. In Her Secret Service, Hubbard-Hall rescues these silenced voices and those of many other fascinating women from obscurity to provide a definitive account of women's contributions to the history of the intelligence services.

Crown Headstrong A1036248270
Crown Headstrong A1036248270
Fifty-two inspiring and insightful profiles of history's brightest female scientists. "Rachel Swaby's no-nonsense and needed Headstrong dynamically profiles historically overlooked female visionaries in science, technology, engineering, and math."-Elle In 2013, the New York Times published an obituary for Yvonne Brill. It began: "She made a mean beef stroganoff, followed her husband from job to job, and took eight years off from work to raise three children." It wasn't until the second paragraph that readers discovered why the Times had devoted several hundred words to her life: Brill was a brilliant rocket scientist who invented a propulsion system to keep communications satellites in orbit, and had recently been awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. Among the questions the obituary-and consequent outcry-prompted were, Who are the role models for today's female scientists, and where can we find the stories that cast them in their true light? Headstrong delivers a powerful, global, and engaging response. Covering Nobel Prize winners and major innovators, as well as lesser-known but hugely significant scientists who influence our every day, Rachel Swaby's vibrant profiles span centuries of courageous thinkers and illustrate how each one's ideas developed, from their first moment of scientific engagement through the research and discovery for which they're best known. This fascinating tour reveals 52 women at their best-while encouraging and inspiring a new generation of girls to put on their lab coats.

Cambridge Academic Learning Latin and Greek from Antiquity to the Present A1033056785
Cambridge Academic Learning Latin and Greek from Antiquity to the Present A1033056785
This volume provides a unique overview of the broad historical, geographical and social range of Latin and Greek as second languages. It elucidates the techniques of Latin and Greek instruction across time and place, and the contrasting socio-political circumstances that contributed to and resulted from this remarkably enduring field of study. Providing a counterweight to previous studies that have focused only on the experience of elite learners, the chapters explore dialogues between center and periphery, between pedagogical conservatism and societal change, between government and the governed. In addition, a number of chapters address the experience of female learners, who have often been excluded from or marginalized by earlier scholarship.

Abstract / english The offspring of expelled Danube Swabians are peergroups with both disrupted family bonds and discontinued (family) histories. Fundamental life decisions arose from dramatic events after 1944. The goal of this survey was to investigate educational directions and specific career choices of second- and third-generation Danube Swabians. In particular, the topic of different family strategies was elaborated. The empirical part consists of four narrative interviews and their appropriate analysis as described by Alfred Schütze. Results: Expelled Danube Swabians invest significantly in the education of their offspring. First generation Danube Swabians have great expectations for their children, but can't give them advice and support. Therefor often the choice of education or profession happens by chance. From the very beginning, females of the second generation Danube Swabians are confronted with both traditional and modern female role models. Based on these four interviews, seventeen described persons were associated with three behavior patterns of family strategies.

Storyside IN Janaki Vimukti -2 (జానకి విముక్తి-2) A1079478060
Telugu literary admirers do not need any special introduction to Ranganayakamma. Ranganayakamma contributed a lot to Telugu literature. She wrote a lot of interesting stories where the female protagonists took the central space. When it comes to 'Janaki Vimukthi', it released in three parts. The first part released in 1977 and the second part released in 1980. In the second part, Janaki understands how her life is becoming a mess and decides to come out of her husband's clutches. The way Ranganayakamma created Janaki's character is pretty impressive and she raises a very important point with the story about women empowerment.

Macmillan USA Second Place A1062145791
Macmillan USA Second Place A1062145791
A haunting fable of art, family, and fate from the author of the Outline trilogy. A woman invites a famous artist to use her guesthouse in the remote coastal landscape where she lives with her family. Powerfully drawn to his paintings, she believes his vision might penetrate the mystery at the center of her life. But as a long, dry summer sets in, his provocative presence itself becomes an enigma-and disrupts the calm of her secluded household. Second Place, Rachel Cusk's electrifying new novel, is a study of female fate and male privilege, the geometries of human relationships, and the moral questions that animate our lives. It reminds us of art's capacity to uplift-and to destroy.

Epubli Indian Woman A1049393854
Epubli Indian Woman A1049393854
These poems, written in English by an anonymous poet from India and translated into Hindi by ProMosaik, are rather like a hymn, to be seen as a whole piece. One of the main subjects of this hymn is the force of the Indian woman, surviving in her difficult and challenging traditional, cultural, and religious environment. She often suffers due to poverty, marginalisation, exclusion, isolation, violence, and oppression. The poet thus says that her survival is a miracle. The birth of a woman is a miracle in itself in a society where many female foetuses have to die because they are unwanted. The hymn sounds like a dialectical affirmation of female strength and godlike beauty, in the background of oppression and violence against women in daily life. This utopian common theme makes this hymn a positive manifest for a specifically Indian feminism. It makes possible a common struggle for an Indian liberation for women. Indian women are praised by the poets. This is a second element of this utopian background of female glorification. Religion and poetry exalt the fact that women give life. The aim of feminist struggle is to make Indian women - oppressed, raped, and abducted in the night - a symbol of beauty and strength. It is not a shame to be a daughter, but an honour. Based on this inversion of Indian reality, this hymn shows us the way to a strong identity for Indian women. This is the final objective of Indian feminist struggle.
