The Land is a book-length narrative poem by Vita Sackville-West. Published in 1926 by William Heinemann, it is a Georgic celebration of the rural landscape, traditions and history of the Kentish Weald where Sackville-West lived. The poem adopts the traditional Georgic structure of the four seasons and is divided into four parts, running from Winter to Autumn, and documenting the agricultural traditions and changing landscape through the year. The poem's intention to capture the natural processes that exist outside of history are made clear in the opening lines: I sing the cycle of my country's year, I sing the tillage, and the reaping sing, Classic monotony, that modes and wars Leave undisturbed, unbettered, for their best Was born immediate, of expediency. The poems were popular enough for there to be six print runs in the first three years of its publication aided in part by its winning the Hawthornden Prize for Literature.

it is the masterwork by Danish poet Inger Christensen ("a true singer of the syllables," said C. D. Wright), often cited as a Nobel contender and one of Europe's most revered poets. On its publication in 1969, it took Denmark by storm, winning critical praise and becoming a huge popular favorite. Translated into many languages, it won international acclaim and is now a classic of modern Scandinavian poetry. it is both a collection of poems and a single poetic epic, forming a philosophical statement on the nature of language, perception, and reality. The subject matter, though, is down to earth: amoebas, stones, and factories; fear, sea urchins, and mental institutions; sand, sexuality, and song. The words and images of it recur in ways reminiscent of Christensen's other works, but here is a younger poetry, wilder, and crackling with energy. The marvelous and complex use of mathematical structure in it is faithfully captured in Susanna Nied's English translation, which won a 2005 PEN Translation Fund Award.

"The Nightingale", or "The Imperial Nightingale" (Danish: Nattergalen) is a fairy tale by the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, written in 1843. "The Nightingale" by Hans Christian Andersen is a tale of natural beauty, art and inspiration. In this story, the king of a country, living peacefully in the luxury of his palace, one day learns about a beautiful nightingale that sings in the forest and will bring him joy with its music. He orders his servants to find the nightingale and bring it to the palace. However, when a mechanical nightingale takes up residence in the palace, which can sing at any moment at the command of the king, the natural nightingale leaves. Because of this, the king is confronted with his own pride and complacency. But when the king falls seriously ill, he realizes that a life of true beauty and art is much more important than the glitter and noise of artificial brilliance. His best medicine is the song of the nightingale, which overcomes the disease. But although the nightingale returns, it cannot stay in the palace, because it belongs to nature. The tale also shows how pride and arrogance can distance us from true value in life.
