TAMIYA 300061070 1:48 US Vought F4U-1A Corsair TAMIYA00000000000300061070
Art.Nr.: 300061070 Artikelbezeichnung: 1:48 US Vought F4U-1A Corsair About the Vought F4U-1A Corsair After enduring heavy losses to the Japanese Navy's Zero fighters in the early stages of the Pacific War, the U.S. Navy became focused on developing new fighters capable of turning the tides of aerial combat. Among those fighters was the Corsair, first developed to be a high speed, carrier borne aircraft. Built around the new Pratt & Whitney R-2800 2000hp engine, and turning the largest propeller ever attached to a fighter plane (4m dia.), this gull-winged wonder was destined to be a success. In June 1942, the F4U-1 production models made their maiden flight. However, due to their restricted forward field of view, and because of a propeller wash effect caused them to stall left wing first during low speed landings, they first were used as land based fighters. Succeeding the F4U-1 in the summer of 1943 was the F4U-1A, which was equipped with an extended rear wheel landing gear shaft, a slightly modified glazed canopy, and a small triangular strip of metal bolted to the right leading edge of the wing to equalize the stall and avoid the roll to the left at touch-down. Despite these improvements, the new F6F Hell Cat was adopted as the main carrier-borne aircraft, and the first combat Corsairs became relegated to land based US Marine squadrons in the South Pacific. Major Boyington and 2nd Lieutenant Hanson of the U.S. Marines, Lt. Kepford of the Navy and other ace-pilots, bravely flew the F4U-1A into fierce air-combats, overpowering the Japanese Zero fighters with tremendous top speed and six 12.7mm heavy machine guns.
Art.Nr.: 300024136 Artikelbezeichnung: 1:24 Volkswagen Käfer 1300 1966 Even in this age of sophistication, the popularity of the Volkswagen "Beetle" has not diminished. The original design dates back to the 1930"s when Dr. Ferdinand Porsche provided the design framework for the "People"s Car." Today, with more than 20 million units produced, the Volkswagen Beetle has become a symbol of mass-produced motorization, with no other vehicle exceeding this figure. Built upon the sturdy platform chassis is the amazingly reliable air cooled, flat-four cylinder engine. Suspension is four wheel independent for crisp handling and driving comfort. Although the onset of the Second World War greatly hindered Volkswagen"s marketing opportunities, it made a superb comeback shortly following the conflict, under the skillful guidance of Heinrich Nordhoff. Throughout its production life, the Volkswagen was continuously improved to meet modern automobile standards. An enlarged powerplant displacement and better visibility are two of the notable changes that enabled the Beetle to set standards for the compact car market, decade after decade. The 1966 Volkswagen model is regarded as the classic Beetle, one that retains the most of the original design traits, and it has become a collector"s item. Even today, more than half a century later, watching a nimble street bug is still a pleasant sight to behold, and its unmistakable shape will likely delight generations to come.
Art.Nr.: 300014057 Artikelbezeichnung: 1:12 Honda VFR 750R 1987 About the Honda VFR750R Honda's release of their limited production, road-going, "works racer" VFR750R made headlines in the motorcycle scene in 1987. The VFR750R is a street-legal counterpart of the formidable RVF750 endurance racer which displayed remarkable potential in the world endurance championships. This bike follows the concept seen in the RVF750, including the use of space-age technology and components such as titanium, carbon-fiber, kevlar, and magnesium. It betters the earlier bikes by a wide margin. The VFR750R also uses a twin-spar aluminum box frame, Pro-Arm (rear swing arm), and a center-lock hub rear wheel. These superlative features and the RVF's racing reputation have made it a collector's item even before the first unit was off the production line. The 748cc, liquid cooled, V4 cylinder 16 valve engine has been kept compact to keep the VFR's overall dimensions very close to the current 500cc Grand Prix racers, for a minimum frontal area. Further, this motorcycle departs from the typical Japanese mass-production practice by using a great deal of human labor on each unit, such as the FRP cowling and windscreen being laid up by hand. The Honda VFR750R is one potent package and has been designed to be very competitive on racing tracks in stock form, yet remain street legal. It will remain a desirable and elusive high performance bike for years to come.
TAMIYA 300061073 1:48 Douglas A-1J Skyrider US TAMIYA00000000000300061073
Art.Nr.: 300061073 Artikelbezeichnung: 1:48 Douglas A-1J Skyrider USAF About the Douglas A-1J Skyraider U.S. Air Force Also going by the names Dauntless II, AD, A-1 Able Dog, and Spad, the Douglas Skyraider saw almost 30 years of service. The Skyraider's development started in June 1944. Not completed in time for WWII, its first combat came with the outbreak of the Korean War in June 1950. The first production version to roll out of the Douglas factory was designated the AD-1. Twelve years and seven versions later, over 3200 Skyraiders had been produced. Among those, the AD-6 version, also known as "Able Dog Six", was produced in the greatest numbers. The next and final version of the Skyraider, the AD-7, was extremely identical to the AD-6, but it had reinforced wing spars and wing fittings, as well as the strongest landing gear of all the variants. The AD-7 housed the new wright R-3350-26WB engine, which enabled a top speed of 285 knots. Due to a directive to standardize the designation of Navy and Air Force aircraft, AD-6 and AD-7 became known as A-1H and A-1J respectively. In 1965, when U.S. air operations in Vietnam became more aggressive, literally hundreds of Skyraiders, including the A-1J, were deployed to the 14th and 56th Special Operations Wings (SOW). Armed with Mk.82 and Mk.117 bombs, 20mm wing-mounted cannons, and rocket launchers, the Skyraiders were used in a wide variety of combat missions.

Art.Nr.: 300014073 Artikelbezeichnung: 1:12 Yamaha YZF-R1 1000ccm 1997 Street At the Motorcycle Show held in Milan, Italy, in September of 1997, the Yamaha YZF-R1 supersport motorcycle made its debut. Sporting a powerful 1000cc engine, it has the compact construction of a 400cc bike. The YZF-R1 was developed for maximum possible cornering ability in a production motorcycle. With a 1000cc water-cooled, four stroke, 4-cylinder, 5-valve engine and adopting a redesigned EXUP exhaust system, it pumps out 150hp of high-intensity power. Subtle throttle control makes both superb acceleration response and rhythmic cornering a reality. The Deltabox II aluminum frame was sought after not only for its rigidity, but more so for its moderate flexibility during tight cornering. With the addition of a long span aluminum swing arm, high control ability has been achieved. By adopting an upside-down front fork, stroke distance has been increased and traction heightened. Boasting a sharp form with multi-reflector lights, the YZF-R1 has been given an unprecedented style. From the contact points between the rider and motorcycle, right down to the material used in the seat and tank, the YZF-R1 has been thoroughly studied. Of course, the abundance of high precision and high quality parts goes without saying. Designed to cruise at high speeds on winding roads, the YZF-R1 shatters expectations about large exhaust engine motorcycles. Yamaha has expanded the possibilities of a 1000cc bike.

TAMIYA 300032570 1:48 Dt. Panzer II Ausf.A/B/C TAMIYA00000000000300032570
Art.Nr.: 300032570 Art.bezeichnung: 1:48 Dt. Panzer II Ausf.A/B/C F.C. In the mid 1930s, the German military pushed the production of tanks. The Panzer I designed as a training tank, did not have the adequate performance, so a light tank was needed to full the gap until the Panzer III could be introduced. Therefore, the German Ordnance Department issued a request for a new training tank that could be used for combat. In the end, MAN was chosen in 1934 to produce the Panzer II, a compact 4.8m long, 2.2m wide design with a three man crew. The 8.9 ton tank featured a 2cm Kwk 30 L/55 cannon and 7.92mm machine gun in the turret, 15mm armor protection for turret and hull front, leaf spring suspension, and a 140hp Maybach HL 62 TRM engine matched with a ZF SSG46 transmission, which gave it a 40km/h top speed. The Ausf. A was produced from 1937, followed by the Ausf. B and C, which were difficult to distinguish from each other visually. About 1,100 Panzer tanks were produced by April 1940, and due to delays with the Panzer III, they were immediately issued as the Panzer divisions' main tank for the invasion of Poland in September 1939. Based on lessons learned on the battlefields of Poland and, in May 1940, France, improvements such as extra armor and a turret cupola were added, and the Panzer II went on to serve in North Africa and Russia in front line and liaison and reconnaissance duties until the end of 1943. Afterwards, they were used to police occupied territories and the chassis was also adapted for use as the basis for various self-propelled gun designs.

Art.Nr.: 300024218 Art.bezeichnung: 1:24 Subaru Impreza WRC '99 The 1997 World Rally Championships saw a relaxing in the rules pertaining to vehicle modification. Subaru was the first team to take advantage of the leeway, bringing out the Impreza WRC. That machine featured all aluminum horizontal four cylinder turbo engine paired with a vertically mounted gearbox. The layout placed the gearbox in a balanced position behind the front axle, heightening manerverability and ultimately contributing to a Mnufactures Championship for that year. The bulk of the improvements to the 1999 model centered around the engine and gearbox. Foremost was the adoption of an electronically controlled throttle system. This system converts the position of the throttle in to electronic signals, heightening throttle response. The Impreza WRC was also equipped with a 6-speed, semi-automatic gearbox. This system enables sudden shifting, such as from 6th to 1st gear. Work is also continuing on the development of an electronically controlled damper system. The Impreza WRC is driven by J. Kankkunen, R. Burns and B. Thiry. Kankkunen and Burns finished in 1st and 2nd place respectively at both the 7th Argentina Rally and the 10th Finland Rally. The 8th Acropolis Rally was also taken by Burns, setting the scene for an intense contest in the latter half of the season.
