Testurteil: "4 out of 5"
Test: Einzeltest: ZTE Blade 3
Zitat: The good: + Cheap Android phones have always been knocking around, ever since Google’s operating system first launched. But to get the price down, phone peddlers have always had to cut corners, and the easiest one to chop is the screen. Not the ZTE Blade 3: the four-inch display is large enough to type on easily, browse the web and watch videos, and with a 480x800 resolution, reasonably sharp too. The build of the phone meanwhile is solid: the black plastic case and faux-metal trim aren’t premium by any means, but they are sturdy, and at under 11mm deep, the whole affair isn’t too thick either. Android itself meanwhile is its usual pleasant, highly customisable self. If you don’t like something, you can almost always change it, whether that’s the browser or the keyboard or even the homescreen. The good news though is that ZTE hasn’t tampered with the open-source operating system much - it’s clean, springy and easy to use. And with 700,000 apps to pick from on Google Play, you won’t get bored anytime soon.
The bad: - When you’re paying so little for a phone, you expect a few compromises. You’ll find them on the ZTE Blade 3 - disappointing, but not exactly a surprise. The five megapixel camera is entirely pedestrian, and the 1GHz processor, while enough to fire up Google Maps’ free satnav, bust out tunes on Spotify or browse the web, will struggle on high-end 3D games. So far, so expected. But it’s a little bit disappointing to see the ZTE Blade 3 still running Android 4.0, eighteen months after it first launched. We’ve seen two versions of Android since then, and while 4.2 is by no means a must-have, 4.1 “Jelly Bean” packs some real must have extras, including smarter notifications and a major speed boost. That the Blade 3 is missing all these more than nine months after Android 4.1 first debuted is a bit of a pain - though one you can certainly cope with.
While top of the line smartphones gets better and better, so do the affordable ones, with tech trickling down in price. The ZTE Blade 3 is a superb example of just how powerful mobiles have become, and with access to the Google Play store for just £69 at launch, it’s a steal. Design aficionados might want to stretch a little further to nab a Nokia Lumia 620, but for everyone else after a smartphone on a budget, the ZTE Blade 3 is a great fit.
