Test: Einzeltest: Patriot Memory Torqx 64GB PFZ64GS25SSDR Solid State Drive
Zitat: The tests I have performed were done with the stock firmware that came preinstalled with the SSD, number 1571. It’s good to mention that if you decide to upgrade the drive firmware to the latest version from the Patriot Memory website, you have first to backup all your important data on the SSD, because the firmware update will also wipe the drive. I was very impressed what boost gives this SSD drive to my I7 920 system, compared to any other HDD. Even the Windows 7 installation was done very fast, about half of the time it used to install on a regular HDD ( I use to install the OSes from flash drives, not CDs or DVDs ). To be more precise, after the installation was complete, Windows 7 was booting very fast: the Windows 7 logo puts the loading to a stop for a short moment and after that it loads for about 2 seconds, the screen blanks, I wait 2 seconds more and I am into Windows desktop, with all applications fully loaded. Even Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer, which did not load right away with my 500GB HDD show instantly on screen, right after I click on the shortcut. I can say that after upgrading your computer with a powerful CPU and enough RAM, the only hardware that can boost significantly the loading speeds is a SSD drive. It is completely true that they are still very expensive, but the performance boost is unbelievable. If you are thinking to buy one only for the boot partition, you do not need in most cases more than 64GB. Patriot also have on their website a TRIM application, which must be used after the drive performance decreases over time and this utility will restore the initial performance, without erasing the data from the device.
