Abrams & Chronicle Books Superman: The Art and Making of the Film A1074898807
James Gunn's Superman marks the triumphant theatrical return of Smallville's favorite son, kicking off a bold new era of DC storytelling under the umbrella of DC Studios. In Superman: The Art and Making of the Film, fans are granted an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Gunn's vision for a Superman that brings the character back to his optimistic, heroic, and brightly colored roots with all the action, adventure, humor, and heart that audiences have experienced in his previous DC entries, The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos. Author James Field (The Art of The Batman) documents every stage of the film's production, from Gunn and his DC Studios co-chairman and co-CEO Peter Safran's earliest conversations about what their vision for Superman would be and what he would represent, to the comics they would turn to for inspiration, to costume and set design, and continuing on to post-production FX. Field conducted interviews with all of the film's key creatives and presents an engaging narrative of the highly collaborative filmmaking process. The book includes an introduction from writer/director/producer James Gunn, a foreword by Superman himself, David Corenswet, and a plethora of concept art and unit photography. Featured are Metropolis-inspired directly by the art of Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, the staggeringly beautiful Fortress of Solitude, the Daily Planet offices, and other locations in the film, along with costume and character designs for David Corenswet's Superman, Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern, Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan's Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi's Mr. Terrific, and, of course, Krypto the Super Dog. Superman: The Art and Making of the Film is the ultimate companion to the first epic big-screen entry in the DC Studios canon.

Penguin Books UK The Self-Made Billionaire Effect A1038828791
Discover and cultivate the secret traits of self-made billionaires with THE SELF-MADE BILLIONAIRE EFFECT by John Sviokla and Mitch Cohen Imagine what Atari might have achieved if Steve Jobs had stayed there. Or what Steve Case could have done for Pepsi if he hadn't left for a start-up that eventually became AOL. Scores of billionaires worked for established corporations before they struck out on their own. People like Michael Bloomberg and Mark Cuban went on to build iconic household brands. Why didn't their former employers hang onto to these people? And why are most big companies unable to create as much value as the world's 800 self-made billionaires? Billionaires aren't necessarily luckier, smarter or harder working than the rest of us - and they rarely build something brand-new. The key difference is their mindset. They redefine what's possible - and they are critical to any company looking to create massive value. The Self-Made Billionaire Effect breaks down the five critical habits of massive value-creators, so you can learn how to identify, encourage, and retain them - and even become one yourself. It will forever change the way you think about talent and business value. John J. Sviokla is the head of Global Thought Leadership with PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is a frequent speaker on innovation, growth, and customer behavior. In addition to working with clients, John serves on PwC's Advisory Leadership Group and Global Thought Leadership Council. He was on the faculty of the Harvard Business School for ten years and has written for Harvard Business Review, The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and Sloan Management Review. Mitch Cohen is PwC's Vice Chairman. During his 33 years at the firm and 20 years as a partner, Cohen has held a variety of leadership roles and served numerous Fortune 500 clients.

Praise for ChinAmerica "A must-read for anyone seeking to understand the emergence of China as a major industrial power and how profoundly it is changing the world economy." -Dr. Henry Kressel, author of Competing for the Future: How Digital Innovations Are Changing the World "This book is essential reading for business leaders and observers everywhere as this dramatic shift of economic and political power from the West to China continues." -Ray Bingham, chairman, Flextronics International "ChinAmerica provides extremely in-depth visibility into the interactions and interdependency of China and the United States. I believe everyone who takes the time to read it will learn of the many challenges and opportunities that exist for both China andthe United States." -Richard Kulle, president and CEO, gEM Services, Inc. "Handel Jones lays out concisely what China is doing right and the United States is doing wrong. This is a wake-up call because China today is the most serious economic competitor that the United States has ever faced. This book should be required reading for all U.S. politicians and business leaders." -Wilfred J. Corrigan, founder, chairman, and CEO (retired), LSI Logic Corp. Conventional wisdom pits China against the United States in a war for economic supremacy. However, in ChinAmerica, Handel Jones, one of the leading experts on China's industrial and economic emergence, demonstrates that the wave of the future is cooperation between the two titans, not conflict-and how America will benefit from increased economic engagement and competition with China. To some, conflict between China and the United States appears to be both imminent and unavoidable (indeed, in some eyes, the battle has already begun). But this perspective badly overlooks one vital fact: both nations have no choice other than to act in their mutual interest. Focusing on several key areas of conflict and mutual interest, Jones gives a thorough and eye-opening portrait of the policies, history, and habits that have led to the intersecting fortunes of the two superpowers. Jones also outlines actions the United States must take to hold on to its leadership role by forging equilibrium with China that's based on mutual respect and dependence. As Jones makes clear, the contrast between the two powers couldn't be more startling: while China is amassing through trade nearly one-fourth of the world's foreign exchange reserves (nearly three-fourths of that amount in USD), the United States excels mostly as a consumer of finished goods, with Americans unconcerned about debt and other consequences of living beyond their means. China subsidizes development of more efficient manufacturing techniques, and in response America threatens protectionist barriers. Developments such as these, however, don't necessarily put the nations on a collision course. To Jones, these facts point to a very real opportunity for Chinese and American governments and businesses to work together rather than be separated by economic tensions. Filled with cogent analysis and expert advice, ChinAmerica is the most comprehensive look yet at the interdependency of the world's two leading powers. This is a book that will change minds about Sino-American relations. Handel Jones is the founder, owner, and CEO of International Business Strategies, Inc., a market and strategy consulting and analysis company whose client list includes IBM, Nokia, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, TSMC, and China Resources. He has been involved withChinese governments and state-owned and private businesses for more than 30 years, and he is one of the leading experts in directing international business investment in China and Chinese corporate investment/expansion overseas. He lives in Los Gatos, California. "Handel Jones lays out concisely what China is doing right and the United States is doing wrong. This is a wake-up call because China today is the most serious economic competitor that the United States has ever faced. Thi

Warren Buffett built Berkshire Hathaway into something remarkable— and Fortune journalist Carol Loomis had a front-row seat for it all. When Carol Loomis first mentioned a little-known Omaha hedge fund manager in a 1966 Fortune article, she didn't dream that Warren Buffett would one day be considered the world's greatest investor—nor that she and Buffett would quickly become close personal friends. As Buffett's fortune and reputation grew over time, Loomis used her unique insight into Buffett's thinking to chronicle his work for Fortune, writing and proposing scores of stories that tracked his many accomplishments—and also his occasional mistakes. Now Loomis has collected and updated the best Buffett articles Fortune published between 1966 and 2012, including thirteen cover stories and a dozen pieces authored by Buffett himself. Loomis has provided commentary about each major article that supplies context and her own informed point of view. Readers will gain fresh insights into Buffett's investment strategies and his thinking on management, philanthropy, public policy, and even parenting. Some of the highlights include: The 1966 A. W. Jones story in which Fortune first mentioned Buffett. The first piece Buffett wrote for the magazine, 1977's "How Inf lation Swindles the Equity Investor.” Andrew Tobias's 1983 article "Letters from Chairman Buffett;” the first review of his Berkshire Hathaway shareholder letters. Buffett's stunningly prescient 2003 piece about derivatives, "Avoiding a Mega-Catastrophe.” His unconventional thoughts on inheritance and philanthropy, including his intention to leave his kids "enough money so they would feel they could do anything, but not so much that they could do nothing.” Bill Gates's 1996 article describing his early impressions of Buffett as they struck up their close friendship. Scores of Buffett books have been written, but none can claim this work's combination of trust between two friends, the writer's deep understanding of Buffett's world, and a very long-term perspective.
GRIN Will China emerge as a global economic and political power in the 21st century? A1005604688
Research paper from the year 2006 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Globalization, Political Economics, grade: 1,6, The University of Sydney, course: International Politics of Asia, 11 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: China has become more interesting for investors and other global powers as it is developing very fast economically and politically. China has also become internationally very active in recent years, which certainly has attracted attention around the world. But we have to consider that China is still a developing country which is not willing to adapt in all areas of international reforms. Rising global powers, in this case China, have always trigged dramatic side effects or serious changes in the power structure of the world. Certainly imperial ambitions, aggressive expansion and striving for power are known to be the reasons for many wars, hence destruction and chaos. The world will have to cope with big challenges because of Chinas need for new recourses, power and recognition. China already goes international unacceptable ways according to Western powers as it cooperates with countries like Iran. In some ways a confrontation seems to be inevitable, as states like the USA want to keep their hegemonial position in the world as long they got the power on their side. On the other side China's military chairman Hu Jintao guarantees a peaceful rise from which not only the own countries will profit, also the international world around. To answer the question I will focus on Chinas current status, and how political and economical actions will favour or hinder the rise to a global power. Also I will focus on how US interaction may hinder the rise as they see a threat in China. What will happen if the sleeping dragon awakes economically and politically?

Morgan, formulierte entsprechend "Managing risk is the business of banking indeed".
A kaleidoscopic account of the financial carnage of the pandemic, revealing the fear, grit, and gambles that drove the economy's winners and losers—from a leading business reporter"A true masterwork . . . perceptive, well researched, and captivating."—David M. Rubenstein, co-founder and co-chairman of The Carlyle Group, bestselling author of How to InvestIt was the ultimate test for CEOs, and almost none of them saw it coming. In early March 2020, with the Dow Jones flirting with 30,000, the world's biggest companies were riding an eleven-year economic high. By the end of the month, millions were out of work, iconic firms were begging for bailouts, and countless small businesses were in freefall. Slick consulting teams and country-club connections were suddenly of little use: Business leaders were fumbling in the dark, tossing out long-term strategy and making decisions on the fly—decisions that, they hoped, might just save them.In Crash Landing, award-winning business journalist Liz Hoffman shows how the pandemic set the economy on fire—but if you look closely, the tinder was already there. After the global financial crisis in 2008, corporate leaders embraced cheap debt and growth at all costs. Wages flatlined. Millions were pushed into the gig economy. Companies crammed workers into offices, and airlines did the same with planes. Wall Street cheered on this relentless march toward efficiency, overlooking the collateral damage and the risks sowed in the process.Based on astonishing access inside some of the world's biggest and most iconic companies, Crash Landing is a kaleidoscopic account of the most remarkable period in modern economic history, revealing—through gripping, fly-on-the-wall reporting—how CEOs battled an economic catastrophe for which there was no playbook: among them, Airbnb's Brian Chesky, blindsided by a virus in the middle of a high-stakes effort to go public; American Airlines' Doug Parker, shuttling between K Street and the White House,.

University Of Pennsylvania Press P. C. Chang and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights A1068254359
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is one of the world's best-known and most translated documents. When it was presented to the United Nations General Assembly in December in 1948, Eleanor Roosevelt, chair of the writing group, called it a new "Magna Carta for all mankind." The passage of time has shown Roosevelt to have been largely correct in her prediction as to the declaration's importance. No other document in the world today can claim a comparable standing in the international community. Roosevelt and French legal expert René Cassin have often been represented as the principal authors of the declaration. But in fact, it resulted from a collaborative effort involving a number of individuals in different capacities. One of the declaration's most important authors was the vice chairman of the Human Rights Commission, Peng Chun Chang (1892-1957), a Chinese diplomat and philosopher whose contribution has been the focus of growing attention in recent years. Indeed, it is Chang who deserves the credit for the universality and religious ecumenism that are now regarded as the declaration's defining features. Despite this, Chang's extraordinary contribution has been overlooked by historians. Peng Chun Chang was a modern-day Renaissance man—teacher; scholar, university chancellor, playwright, diplomat, and politician. A true cosmopolitan, he was deeply involved in the cultural exchange between East and West, and the dramatic events of his life left a profound mark on his intellectual and political work. P. C. Chang and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the first biography of this extraordinary actor on the world stage, who belonged to the same generation as Mao Zedong and Chiang Kai-shek. Drawing on previously unknown sources, it casts new light on Chang's multifaceted life and involvement with one of modern history's most important documents.
