Eine erhebliche Anzahl von Firmen hat wertorientierte Führungskonzepte implementiert, darunter auch die Ford Motor Company. Diese Unternehmensphilosophie bestätigt der Chairman der Ford Motor Company: "We re in the process of reinventing Ford with a single strategic focus on consumer and Shareholder Value." Die Ursachen für diese Entwicklung werden in der folgenden Abbildung verdeutlicht: Damit verbunden ist auch eine wertorientierte Managerentlohnung als Bestandteil strategischer Personal- und Unternehmensführung. Bei der Entlohnung der Arbeitnehmer in der Produktion der Automobilindustrie wird jedoch in Deutschland, so auch bei der Ford-Werke AG, größtenteils auf traditionelle Lohnformen zurückgegriffen. Anhand des mangelnden Informationsgehalts traditioneller Kennzahlen zur Beurteilung der Wertsteigerung wird die Notwendigkeit der Anwendung wertorientierter Steuerungsinstrumente veranschaulicht. Es folgt die Darstellung der wichtigsten theoretischen Grundmodelle zur Umsetzung des Shareholder Value Konzepts. In diesem Zusammenhang werden deren Ziele und die jeweiligen Bewertungsverfahren herausgearbeitet. In Kapitel III werden die Entlohnungssysteme auf Basis des Shareholder Value-Konzepts, als Variante eines unternehmenserfolgsabhängigen Entgeltbestandteil, kurz vorgestellt. Es gilt zunächst die Begriffe im Zusammenhang mit Entlohnung zu definieren. Die einzelnen Bestandteile des individuellen Lohns werden voneinander abgegrenzt. Im weiteren Verlauf dieses Abschnitts werden die Ziele, die Unternehmen mit der Implementierung eines wertorientierten Entlohnungssystems verfolgen, dargestellt.
