2. Der Dudelklau (Who Stole the Bagpipes?) 3. 7. Der Superstümper (Lord of the Bungle) Große Elefanten verwandeln sich unversehens in kleine Zuckerwürfel. 9. 11. Pyramiden-Plage (The Plague of Pyramids) Ganz England wird von plötzlich auftauchenden Pyramiden bevölkert. 12.

Mushroom Blues A1071453801
Mushroom Blues A1071453801
"A fascinating merging of oppressive imperialism and disconcerting alienation."--Adrian Tchaikovsky, award-winning author of Children of Time, Alien Clay & Shards of Earth Blade Runner, True Detective, and District 9 meld with the weird worlds of Jeff VanderMeer, Philip K. Dick, and China Miéville in Adrian M. Gibson's award-winning fungalpunk noir debut, now with a foreword from acclaimed author Nicholas Eames and six pieces of original interior artwork in this ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY EDITION. Two years after a devastating defeat in the decade-long Spore War, the island nation of Hōppon and its capital city of Neo Kinoko are occupied by invading Coprinian forces. Its fungal citizens are in dire straits, wracked by food shortages, poverty, and an influx of war refugees. Even worse, the corrupt occupiers exploit their power, hounding the native population. As a winter storm looms over the metropolis, NKPD homicide detective Henrietta Hofmann begrudgingly partners up with mushroom-headed patrol officer Koji Nameko to investigate the mysterious murders of fungal and half-breed children. Their investigation drags them deep into the seedy underbelly of a war-torn city, one brimming with colonizers, criminal gangs, racial division, and moral decay. In order to solve the case and unravel the truth, Hofmann must challenge her past and embrace fungal ways. What she and Nameko uncover in the midst of this frigid wasteland will chill them to the core, but will they make it through the storm alive? Winner of the FanFiAddict Award for Best Indie Debut and the Literary Titan Gold Book Award. SPFBO X, Indie Ink Award, American Writing Award and Readers' Favorite Book Award Finalist. "This is like nothing I've read before. Its premise is cool, creepy, and incredibly unique, bolstered by prose as savvy and knife-sharp as the detectives of the NKPD."--Nicholas Eames, award-winning author of Kings of the Wyld & Bloody Rose "This is more than a full-throttle, mushroom-and-blood-drenched adventure. At its heart, Gibson's story is one of acceptance: of hard truths, of others, and, perhaps most critically, of oneself."--M. J. Kuhn, internationally bestselling author of Among Thieves & Thick as Thieves "Dark, dank, and deeply fungal. Gibson tackles the hard topics of xenophobia, oppression, and heinous crimes against society's most vulnerable with unflinching prose."--Julia Vee, co-author of Ebony Gate & Blood Jade "Mushroom Blues is a brilliant debut that encapsulates all I love about the noir mystery genre."--R.R. Virdi, bestselling author of The First Binding & The Doors of Midnight "The imagination on display in Mushroom Blues is immense. Prepare to enter a fantasy world unlike anything you've ever seen, one that surprises, delights, and grosses the fuck out."--Moses Ose Utomi, award-winning author of The Lies of the Ajungo & The Truth of the Aleke

I know you're going to scream at me for using the 'twist you didn't see coming,' but I really didn't.' 'The only thing I can say that was a disappointment about reading this book, is that I somehow missed the first one in the series... What a cracking read! I'm now off the find book 1! 5 solid stars.' 'This is the second book featuring DS Ashley Knight... This is a cracking good thriller that pulls you this way and that and keeps you guessing... I've always loved everything that I have read by Ross Greenwood and this book is no exception.' 'This was brilliant! So much going on throughout the book it was hard to keep up but so captivating till the end. Great story & characters. Loved it!' 'Another great read with so many twists and turns it's like you are in a police car travelling at speed along the winding costal roads of Norfolk' 'Another cracker of a read from Greenwood. His characterisation is superb, and the plot line fast paced and scary. Just the thought of being buried alive... highly recommended as are all of this author's books, and made extra special by being set in beautiful Norfolk.'

HarperCollins Freakonomics Rev Ed A1042798854
HarperCollins Freakonomics Rev Ed A1042798854
The legendary bestseller that encouraged millions of readers to look at the hidden side of everything Which is more dangerous: a gun or a swimming pool? Why do drug dealers still live with their moms? What do real estate agents and the KKK have in common? These may not sound like typical questions for an economist to ask. But Steven D. Levitt is not a typical economist. He is a much-heralded scholar who uses data analysis to study the riddles of everyday life—from cheating and crime to sports and child-rearing—and whose conclusions turn conventional wisdom on its head. Freakonomics Rev Ed is a groundbreaking collaboration between Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner, an award-winning author and journalist. Some of these questions concern life-and-death issues; others have an admittedly freakish quality. Thus the new field of study contained in this book: freakonomics. Through forceful storytelling and wry insight, Levitt and Dubner show that pop economics is, at root, the study of incentives—how people get what they want, or need, especially when other people want or need the same thing. In Freakonomics Rev Ed, they explore the hidden side of everything. The inner workings of a crack gang. The myths of campaign finance. The telltale marks of a cheating schoolteacher. What unites all these stories is a belief in counterintuitive thinking: that the modern world, despite a great deal of complexity and downright deceit, is not impenetrable, is not unknowable, and—if the right questions are asked—is even more intriguing than we think. All it takes is a new way of looking. Freakonomics Rev Ed establishes this unconventional premise: If morality represents how we would like the world to work, then behavioral economics represents how it actually does work. It is true that readers of this book will be armed with enough riddles and stories to last a thousand cocktail parties. But Freakonomics can provide more than that. It will literally redefine the way we view the modern world. This revised and expanded edition of the book contains a smattering of bonus material, including selected Freakonomics columns from The New York Times Magazine; a Q&A with Steven Levitt, Stephen Dubner, and Angela Duckworth; and the New York Times Magazine profile Dubner wrote about Levitt that started it all. This exploration of the hidden side of everything reveals: Incentives Are Everywhere: Why do drug dealers still live with their moms? It all comes down to understanding how people—from criminals to teachers—respond to economic, social, and moral incentives. Challenging Conventional Wisdom: Discover what schoolteachers and sumo wrestlers have in common, why real estate agents might not have your best interest at heart, and how common knowledge is often completely wrong. Case Studies in Economics: See how sifting through data reveals surprising truths about crime rates, parenting strategies, and more, showing that the modern world is more intriguing than we think. Real-World Economics: Learn which is more dangerous, a gun or a swimming pool, and other riddles of everyday life that demonstrate how economics represents the way the world actually works.
