VS Verlag für Sozialwissenschaften Leitprinzipien der Strafrechtsreform / Kriminalpolitische Aspekte der Strafrechtsreform A1033808788
The lecture does not deal with the particular problems of the present total revision of the German penal code but with the basic positions held or to be held in their solution. This is done first in respect to the alternatives of repression and therapy, highly controversial in theory and important in practice for the particular formation of penal sanctions. On the one hand the author argues against the opinion that the dignity of man requires a retaliating or expiating penalty. He attempts to show that the form of penal correction should be determined not by the abstract concept of the freedom of the human will but by the concrete lack of freedom due to the socially or individually conditioned psychological stress on the criminal, if you want to enable hirn to live in harmony with the law. On the other hand retaliation cannot be replaced by therapy alone. Social regulations will lose their bind ing force if they are not connected with sanctions. Therefore the function of therapy and repression is to harmonize with each other in faceted solutions. The second part of the lecture is concerned with the question of the points of view from which the social norms deserving the protection of penallaw should be selected.

The short story OBITS won the 2016 Edgar for best short story. The No.1 bestselling author delivers an 'outstanding' (USA Today) collection of thrilling stories, introducing each one with a fascinating piece on when, where or how he came to write it. There is a treasure here for every reader: a man who keeps reliving exactly the same life, repeating his mistakes over and over again; a columnist who kills people by writing their obituaries; a poignant tale about the end of the human race and a firework competition between neighbours which reaches an explosive climax. And, exclusive to this paperback edition (and the eBook from 6 September), a brand new story 'Cookie Jar'. 'I made them especially for you,' says King. 'Feel free to examine them, but please be careful. The best of them have teeth.' Der schwedische Musiker David Myhr (von The Merrymakers) macht zeitlose Popmusik, die auf starken Melodien und harmonischen Stimmen basiert. Where do musical ideas come from? How do songwriters compose their melodies? Why is one idea more appealing than the other? Fundamentally, what makes a great song? These were among the issues examined by Swedish singer/songwriter David Myhr over the last four years. The answers are explored in both an academic research project and Myhr's second solo album Lucky Day. First entering the public eye as frontman of The Merrymakers -- a melody-packed, harmony-laden combo known for continuing Sweden's heritage as the mecca of melody in the 90's -- The Merrymakers sold over 100,000 albums in Japan alone. Myhr has further earned his proverbial stripes writing for international artists, including Puffy Amiyumi and Yuko Yamaguchi, in addition to feature films and advertising. An ambitious follow-up to Myhr's debut solo effort Soundshine, his first full-length release in six years is not just an album with 10 new songs but a portfolio that was assembled as part of Myhr's doctorate, funded by his "day gig" in Swedish academia. Joked Myhr: "What better excuse to make a record than to get a PhD?"
Selections from one of the great classics of literature--now part of the Shambhala Pocket Library. In July 1845, Henry David Thoreau built a small cottage in the woods near Walden Pond in Concord, Massachusetts, and began to write Walden, a chronicle of his communion with nature. Since its first publication in 1854, the work has become a classic, beloved for its message of living simply and in harmony with nature. This abridged edition of Walden features exquisite wood engravings by Michael McCurdy and a foreword by noted author and environmentalist Terry Tempest Williams, who reflects upon Thoreau’s message that as we explore our world and ourselves, we draw closer to the truth of our connectedness. This book is part of the Shambhala Pocket Library series. The Shambhala Pocket Library is a collection of short, portable teachings from notable figures across religious traditions and classic texts. The covers in this series are rendered by Colorado artist Robert Spellman. The books in this collection distill the wisdom and heart of the work Shambhala Publications has published over 50 years into a compact format that is collectible, reader-friendly, and applicable to everyday life.

Inside a reimagined industrial building in Belgium, N.E.S.T. broadens the definition of what a cultural space can be. Inaugurated in 2020 and founded by entrepreneur Paul Thiers, N.E.S.T. is a bold incubator for contemporary creation—bringing together art, design, architecture, wine, automobiles, and music under one roof. Part exhibition space, part meeting place, part laboratory, it invites dialogue, cross-pollination, and independent thinking. This richly illustrated volume plunges readers into the heart of N.E.S.T. Through more than 200 previously unpublished photographs, it reveals an extraordinary constellation of objects and works: iconic pieces of modern and contemporary design, classic cars, rare vintage wines, and major artworks by figures including Wolfgang Tillmans, Christopher Wool, Franz West, Tracey Emin, Bruce Nauman, Thomas Schütte, Günther Förg, Danh Vo, and others who shape today’s artistic landscape. At the core is the building itself—transformed by architect Olivier Dwek into a space where industrial rawness meets organic harmony. More than a setting, N.E.S.T. is a living, breathing environment where creativity unfolds. Visually striking and intellectually stimulating, N.E.S.T.: House of the Arts is essential reading for lovers of art, design, and architecture—and for anyone drawn to places where ideas and opinions are free to grow.
Anne-Marie Meyer The Inn on Harmony Island A1063943168
"I've binged it in a day, I love these characters, I love their dynamics, I love the mysteriousness of their background and everything in between. I've fallen hard for these characters!" --Reviewer "Each time I assumed the book would be predictable, a twist popped up and kept me hooked. A great addition to the small town trope." --Reviewer "Love this story so much it is beautiful written!" --Reviewer It's the moment that Harmony Island has been waiting for: the reading of Charlotte Cane's will. After I returned to my small hometown six months ago to attend my estranged grandmother's funeral, I swore I would never go back. That is, until my grandmother's lawyer calls me up. If I don't return to Harmony Island and fulfill my grandmother's stipulations, the generationally owned family inn will be turned over to the state and sold off to the highest bidder--my grandmother's rival and mother to the man who broke my heart, Missy Willis. I'm not sure I'm strong enough to return home, but I also know, I can't let Miss Willis win. So I pack up my belongings and head for North Carolina. I'm determined to stay distant, living in the small cottage next to the inn, and keep my head down. But in a small town where everyone knows your name, that becomes difficult. Soon, my past catches up with me and I'm faced with the history I've buried for so long. Just when I reach my breaking point, Miles, the single dad living at the inn, swoops in to my life to rescue me. He was my protector in my childhood, my enemy in my teenage years, and now? Now, I'm not so sure. Especially when his love for his daughter is contagious, or the way he looks at me when he doesn't know I see him. I'm so confused and I want to run away like I did in the past, but I can't. And when Miles touches me like that...I don't want to. Luckily, I find a friend in Abigail, the local bookstore owner. She's one of the only residents who doesn't know about my past and seems to be looking for the same thing I am, a place to belong. This story is told through 3 different points of view. Shelby, Abigail, and Miles. It's a story of romance and friendships between women. If you liked the Netflix show, Sweet Magnolias, you'll love this series! The Inn on Harmony Island is chock full of romance, redemption, and forgiveness. If you're looking for your next summer read, grab your copy today! It is the first book in the Sweet Tea and a Southern Gentleman series and ends on a cliff hanger.

Despite his valiant efforts and skills in camouflage and gnome magic, he is captured. He wakes up to find himself in a strange domain, among garden gnomes and other curious objects. Hierophant Publishing The Shaman's Path to Freedom A1068303040
Humanity is in crisis. War, poverty, environmental disasters, and more have brought the planet to a tipping point. In our personal lives, many of us carry deep-seated fear, resentment, anger, and even hatred for others and ourselves. Since ancient times, Toltec shamans have taught that the root of all this discord can be found in the human mind and what they called its addiction to suffering. They have also taught that the time will come when we must choose to either break free from this addiction or pay the ultimate price. According to Toltec Shaman don Jose Ruiz, that time is now, and the change that is needed can only come from within. In The Shaman's Path to Freedom, Ruiz will teach you how to find and claim your own personal freedom, one based on unconditional love for yourself and others, and in doing so break your mind's addiction to suffering. By walking this path, you can live a life of peace and harmony within yourself, which is the most important thing you can do to bring about the change that is needed in the world. Filled with Toltec practices for establishing personal freedom, The Shaman's Path to Freedom is don Jose Ruiz's most personal and radical book yet, guaranteed to thrill both new readers and longtime fans.

A richly illustrated tarot deck by Four Winds founder Alberto Villoldo, combining traditional tarot archetypes with the sacred symbols present in one of the world's most ancient wisdom traditions-shamanism. Before the dawn of time, before space and galaxies were formed, there were the sacred symbols. Then, the sages read the signs of destiny in the sacred symbols and heard the voice of spirit in the wind. Now, those symbols have been lost to many of us-but not the sages from the Andes and the Amazon, cartographers of the invisible world. Here, those symbols are brought to life within the tarot. Each card is infused with rich imagery drawn from these ancient cultures and inspired by both the tarot of Marseilles and the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot. By working with this deck, you can turn chaos into cosmos, find beauty and harmony in creation, and embrace your feelings and experiences, allowing them to flow through you rather than holding you captive. Through this journey, you will discover the teachings the Universe offers and transform them into wisdom-bliss, empowering you to become a co-creator with Spirit. As you learn the language of the sacred symbols, you will cultivate a deeper understanding of your potential and how to dance harmoniously with the unseen forces that shape your reality.

HarperCollins The Age of Magical Overthinking A1070821525
In the modern information age, our brain's coping mechanisms have been overloaded, and our irrationality turned up to eleven. Amanda Montell blends cultural criticism and personal narrative to explore our modern cognitive biases and the power, disadvantages and highlights of magical overthinking. "Magical thinking" can be broadly defined as the belief that one's internal thoughts can affect unrelated events in the external world. Whether that's "manifesting" their way out of poverty, staving off cancer with positive vibes, or transforming an unhealthy relationship to a glorious one through loyalty alone. In a series of razor sharp and introspective chapters, Montell delves into cognitive biases that run rampant in our brains, from how the "halo effect" cultivates worship (and hatred) of larger-than-life celebrities, to how the "sunk cost fallacy" can keep us in detrimental relationships long after they no longer serve us. Told with her signature brilliance and wit, Montell delivers a powerful prevailing message of hope and forgiveness for our anxious human experience. If you ever find yourself struggling, despite your best efforts, to keep faith in our overwhelming information overload, this book will be your guiding light. Now's the time to make sense of the senselessness and refresh our minds. Montell illuminates in the chaos, quieting the havoc, and invites us to listen, as even in the most startling dissonance, there is harmony.
