Abstract: The author develops a multidimensional approach to joint venture success in Brazil, one of the largest and most attractive emerging markets in the world. International joint ventures are complex inter-partner relationships depending on personal and intercultural understanding of the partners, the strategic harmony of the goals to be achieved, the resource fit, and last but not least the trust between the partners to survive and prosper. Previous research has focused on various issues concerning international joint ventures implementation and development, including planning, managing and controlling processes. Little attention, however, has been paid to the Latin American market with its very unique characteristics. The underlying study aims to identify the key success factors of Austro-Brazilian joint ventures by seeking answers to the following questions: Which critical internal and external factors influence this kind of cooperation? What are the managers perception...

Random House N.Y. The Notebooks of Sonny Rollins A1068764407
"An illuminating selection of writings on a wide variety of topics-everything from technique, music theory, and daily routine to spirituality and systemic racism-from the personal journals of Sonny Rollins, master of the tenor saxophone and "jazz's greatest living improviser" (The New York Times). Sonny Rollins is one of the towering masters of American music, a virtuoso of the saxophone and an unequaled improviser whose live performances are legendary and who reshaped modern jazz time and time again over the course of a career lasting more than sixty years. Throughout the greater part of it, Rollins also maintained a notebook in which he sketched in words and images as he pondered art and life and his own search for meaning. The Notebooks of Sonny Rollins provides an unequaled glimpse into the mind and workshop of a musical titan, along with a wealth of insight and inspiration to readers. In the fall of 1959, Rollins famously took a break from performing and recording. He turned to practicing for long hours, often late at night, on the Williamsburg Bridge, and it was then for the first time that he began to turn regularly to his notebooks, which at the time and in the years to come proved for him an indispensable instrument of change in their own right. Here Rollins can tend towards the aphoristic, as in "Face the startling and intriguing reality that there is within me a force working hard for my own destruction, even as I try to improve." Elsewhere, music is front and center, as he mingles observations on embouchure, fingering, and technique with reflections on harmony and dissonance. Lists of daily chores, rehearsal routines, reflections on particular tours and recordings (including detailed notes on how Rollins wanted live albums to be edited), and a steady stream of notes on diet and health also find their way into the notebooks, as do ruminations on systemic racism and the way nightclub culture degrades jazz musicians. Rollins emphatically resists claims that jazz should be considered solely as an African American art form, protesting the diminishment that is caused to jazz musicians by labeling their work "racial music." "The point to be absorbed here," he writes, "is that any definition which seeks to separate Johann Sebastian Bach from Miles Davis is defeating its own purpose of clarification. The musings of Miles is then the bouncing of Bach both played against each other." Carefully selected and including an informative introduction by critic and scholar Sam Reese, The Notebooks of Sonny Rollins makes a vital and fascinating document of American culture publicly available for the first time"--
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers Murder At The Allotment A1069157117
Murder At The Allotment is the tenth book in Julie Wassmer's popular crime series - now a major Acorn TV drama, Whitstable Pearl, starring Kerry Godliman as private detective and restaurateur, Pearl Nolan 'While Oxford had Morse, Whitstable, famous for its oysters, has Pearl' Daily Mail Pearl's tiny garden of Eden is transformed into a battlefield when the out of towners come to Whitstable... Pearl Nolan's coastal allotment has always been a quiet haven - somewhere for her to relax and cultivate special ingredients for her restaurant, The Whitstable Pearl. But a sudden clamour for allotments by the DFLs - Down From Londoners - causes tension in the local community when the council decides to accommodate them by dividing existing plots into smaller parcels. The harmony that once existed between holders of land previously blighted only by slugs and caterpillars, soon transforms into a bitter turf war as a pushy DFL tries to take over by forming an Allotment Association - with herself as its chair. When anonymous complaints are submitted to the council about each of the local allotment holders -- apart from the DFLs --Pearl's services as private detective are called upon to discover the complainant but before she can do so, what began as a tiff among the turnips soon becomes a hunt for a killer when gardening tools are put to murderous use... Praise for Julie Wassmer's Whitstable Pearl Mysteries... 'One of the best episodes in Wassmer's longrunning Whitstable saga' Daily Mail 'As light as a Mary Berry Victoria sponge, this Middle-England romp is packed with vivid characters' Myles McWeeney, Irish Independent 'All of the thrills without any of the gore' The Sun 'Wassmer tells a rattling good tale with a lineup of oddball characters who keep us guessing' Daily Mail 'This is a quality title...a very entertaining read' The Puzzle Doctor 'A wonderful way to explore Whitstable . . . if you love cosy mysteries, then get acquainted with Pearl (and her mum and her cats!) and enjoy a trip to Whitstable through the eyes of this very convincing author' Trip Fiction 'Proves she's mistress of her craft' John McGhie, author of White Highlands 'Good, solid whodunits, without gruesome details or gratuitous violence, Murder on Sea may be just your cup of tea' Bec Stafford Praise for the TV series... 'Scandi noir meets the English seaside in Whitstable Pearl, a murder mystery series based on Julie Wassmer's novels...' Drama Quarterly '...explores all the murder and debauchery in the seemingly perfect English seaside town of Whitstable...' Washington Post '...you never know what might turn up, either on the menu or alongside an oyster boat.' Wall Street Journal

Maria Edgeworth's Belinda (1801) is a social novel that follows the young heroine Belinda Portman as she enters London high society under the guidance of the dazzling but troubled Lady Delacour. Initially overwhelmed by the glamour and volatility of her new surroundings, Belinda soon recognizes the dangers of a world ruled by gossip, vanity, and appearances. Her calm reason and moral steadiness contrast sharply with Lady Delacour's impulsive behavior, creating a relationship that becomes central to both women's development. As Belinda witnesses Lady Delacour's emotional struggles-particularly her fear of a fatal illness and her fractured marriage-she becomes a force for healing and restoration. At the same time, Belinda navigates her own romantic prospects, ultimately forming a genuine connection with Clarence Hervey. His growth from a misguided idealist to a thoughtful partner mirrors Belinda's own journey toward clarity and maturity. The novel blends social critique with moral instruction, addressing themes such as reputation, women's independence, and rational love. By the end, both Belinda and Lady Delacour emerge wiser and more grounded, and the story resolves in harmony and reformed relationships. Belinda stands as an early realist novel that combines sharp insight into fashionable society with a sympathetic portrayal of personal transformation. About the Author Maria Edgeworth (1768-1849) was an Anglo-Irish novelist, education theorist, and one of the most influential literary figures of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Born in Oxfordshire, she spent most of her life at the family estate in County Longford, Ireland, where her writing was shaped by both the intellectual milieu of her father, Richard Lovell Edgeworth, and the social realities of rural Irish life. Edgeworth is widely regarded as a pioneer of the regional novel, using vivid local detail and carefully observed dialect to portray Irish society with a realism that was innovative for her time. Her early works, including Castle Rackrent (1800), combined satire, social commentary, and narrative experimentation, earning praise from contemporaries such as Sir Walter Scott, who later credited her as an inspiration for his own historical fiction. Alongside fiction, Edgeworth was deeply invested in educational reform, collaborating with her father on treatises that emphasized rational upbringing, moral instruction, and the importance of nurturing children's natural curiosity. Her novels often reflected these pedagogical concerns, blending entertainment with moral purpose. Despite the political upheavals of her era-including the Act of Union and recurring tensions between Anglo-Irish landlords and Irish tenants-Edgeworth wrote with a commitment to empathy, practical reform, and cross-cultural understanding. Her clear-sighted, humane portrayals helped shape the early development of realist fiction and left a lasting mark on Irish and British literature. Maria Edgeworth remains celebrated today for her skillful narrative voice, progressive views on education, and nuanced exploration of national identity.

He found these energetic disturbances correlated with the emotional and physical traumas his clients had experienced throughout their lives, the human biofield acting as a record of pain, stress, and trauma from gestation onward. Passing the forks through these areas not only corrected the distorted vibrational sounds he was hearing but also imparted consistent, predictable, and sometimes immediate relief from pain, anxiety, insomnia, migraines, depression, fibromyalgia, digestive disorders, and a host of other complaints. Now, more than 20 years later, Ajash has fully developed his sound healing method, which he calls Sound Balancing, and created 14 unique tracks, bringing back the sense of well-being to your mind, body and spirit. Sounds that ring at just right frequency, to fill you with calm, peace, and intuition. Playing and listening to music that has been tuned to 432 Hz creates a sense of peace and well being as it is the harmonic intonation of nature. Lowering the pitch by just 8 Hz helps to calm the body and mind which in turn makes us more flexible, creative, peaceful and spontaneous; It also helps in the release of negative energy and can easily put us in a wonderful state of calm where relaxation is natural. It is the scale that unites the body and consciousness with nature. According to Abhamani Ajash, music tuned to 432 Hz is softer and calmer, giving greater clarity and is easier on the ears. Healing music tuned to 432 Hz is relaxing for the body and mind and also more harmonically pleasant than 440 Hz. Many researches have also shown that people feel calmer, happier and more relaxed when playing and listening at 432 Hz. Music that is tuned to 432 Hz is more friendly for the ears and unites us to the universal harmony and generates positive effects on mind and body. -- What our customers say (reviews): ***** This audio book is absolutely phenomenal and is now my favorite for relaxing and falling asleep! Three Rivers Press Sleeping with the Devil A1001305459
"Saudi Arabia is more and more an irrational state--a place that spawns global terrorism even as it succumbs to an ancient and deeply seated isolationism, a kingdom led by a royal family that can't get out of the way of its own greed. Is this the fulcrum we want the global economy to balance on?" In his explosive New York Times bestseller, See No Evil , former CIA operative Robert Baer exposed how Washington politics drastically compromised the CIA's efforts to fight global terrorism. Now in his powerful new book, Sleeping with the Devil, Baer turns his attention to Saudi Arabia, revealing how our government's cynical relationship with our Middle Eastern ally and America' s dependence on Saudi oil make us increasingly vulnerable to economic disaster and put us at risk for further acts of terrorism. For decades, the United States and Saudi Arabia have been locked in a "harmony of interests." America counted on the Saudis for cheap oil, political stability in the Middle East, and lucrative business relationships for the United States, while providing a voracious market for the kingdom' s vast oil reserves. With money and oil flowing freely between Washington and Riyadh, the United States has felt secure in its relationship with the Saudis and the ruling Al Sa'ud family. But the rot at the core of our "friendship" with the Saudis was dramatically revealed when it became apparent that fifteen of the nineteen September 11 hijackers proved to be Saudi citizens. In Sleeping with the Devil , Baer documents with chilling clarity how our addiction to cheap oil and Saudi petrodollars caused us to turn a blind eye to the Al Sa'ud's culture of bribery, its abysmal human rights record, and its financial support of fundamentalist Islamic groups that have been directly linked to international acts of terror, including those against the United States. Drawing on his experience as a field operative who was on the ground in the Middle East for much of his twenty years with the agency, as well as the large network of sources he has cultivated in the region and in the U.S. intelligence community, Baer vividly portrays our decades-old relationship with the increasingly dysfunctional and corrupt Al Sa'ud family, the fierce anti-Western sentiment that is sweeping the kingdom, and the desperate link between the two. In hopes of saving its own neck, the royal family has been shoveling money as fast as it can to mosque schools that preach hatred of America and to militant fundamentalist groups--an end game just waiting to play out. Baer not only reveals the outrageous excesses of a Saudi royal family completely out of touch with the people of its kingdom, he also takes readers on a highly personal search for the deeper roots of modern terrorism, a journey that returns time again and again to Saudi Arabia: to the Wahhabis, the powerful Islamic sect that rules the Saudi street; to the Taliban and al Qaeda, both of which Saudi Arabia helped to underwrite; and to the Muslim Brotherhood, one of the most active and effective terrorist groups in existence, which the Al Sa'ud have sheltered and funded. The money and arms that we send to Saudi Arabia are, in effect, being used to cut our own throat, Baer writes, but America might have only itself to blame. So long as we continue to encourage the highly volatile Saudi state to bank our oil under its sand--and so long as we continue to grab at the Al Sa'ud's money--we are laying the groundwork for a potential global economic catastrophe.
“The monk who taught the world mindfulness.” —TIME “Thich Nhat Hanh shows us the connection between personal inner peace and peace on earth.” —His Holiness the Dalai Lama “Thich Nhat Hanh is a holy man, for he is humble and devout. He is a scholar of immense intellectual capacity. His ideas for peace, if applied, would build a monument to ecumenism, to world brotherhood, to humanity.” —Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “ The Sun My Heart first came into my hands over three decades ago, and it is still my most cherished book by Thich Nhat Hanh. Ever again it brings the freshness of morning, a luminous, clear-eyed sanity at the core of the Dharma. Here is born the courage to embrace our suffering world, which has grounded and guided me through the years.” —Joanna Macy, author of A Wild Love for the World: Joanna Macy and the Work of our Time “Thich Nhat Hanh’s work, on and off the page, has proven to be the antidote to our modern pain and sorrows. Here is a monumental, life-giving mind, preserved as textual force. And that's what I feel reading and practicing his teachings: that I am being acted on by a compassion equal to and pervasive as gravity itself. His books help me be more human, more me than I was before.” —Ocean Vuong, author of On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous “Thich Nhat Hanh is a great teacher. I have studied him, his work, his passage through life, with gratitude and joy. Through his writings, his public offerings, his insights, I’ve gained vision and clarity; I’ve often felt it would be impossible to find a more lucid, determined, and courageous soul.” —Alice Walker, author of The Color Purple “Thich Nhat Hanh is among the most revered leaders in the world. His teachings and mindfulness practices have deeply influenced my journey through life. He is a torch of wisdom lighting the path ahead, generating the compassion, love, and understanding we need to create peace for ourselves and the world.” —Marc Benioff, chair and CEO, Salesforce “Thich Nhat Hanh does not merely teach peace; Thich Nhat Hanh is peace.” —Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love “Thich Nhat Hanh's words are like water. Simple, pure, transparent, and absolutely indispensable for life.” —Alejandro Iñárritu, director of Birdman and The Revenant “How is it that a Vietnamese Buddhist monk who teaches mindfulness could inspire Martin Luther King and become one of the great nonviolent activists of the twenty-first century? Like no other teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh shows us the revolutionary possibilities of building social movements based on compassion, for both ourselves and others.” —Professor john a powell, director of the Othering & Belonging Institute at UC Berkeley “I first met Thich Nhat Hanh in 1968 in Paris. That was the time of rising counter culture, protest against the Vietnam war and student uprising. At that time his presence in Paris was like a soothing rain in dry heat. Ever since, for more than fifty years, he has been the conscience of humanity. He has been a compassionate catalyst of spiritual awakening, social harmony and ecological awareness. He has nurtured the human spirit with dedication, determination and delight. He is humble and gentle yet powerfully persuasive and strong willed. It has been a joy of my life to know him and follow his teachings.” —Satish Kumar, editor emeritus Resurgence & Ecologist magazine and founder of Schumacher College
