Test: Einzeltest: Plantronics Rig gaming headset
Zitat: The good: + Sound quality from the Plantronics Rig is fantastic, thanks to the 40mm speaker drivers. They make gunshots from games sound ear-splittingly realistic. Three EQ profiles give you plenty of flexibility based on what you want to do: you can choose from pure, intensify, or seismic. The Rig is comfortable to wear, and looks cool, too. You´d happily be seen wearing it out and about, so long as you remember to take the mic off. It´s versatile and easy to use - to switch between gaming and calls you use a mixing module, which is a clever little device. Plug in your phone, then dial down the volume from your games console and you can chat on calls while you´re still playing. The earpods fold flat, making them easier to pack in a bag without getting damaged. And it’s compatible with Skype, if you want to hear the person you’re talking to more clearly.
The bad: - At £109.99, the Plantronics Rig is far from cheap, especially when you consider a headset comes with the Xbox 360. In fact, you could buy three official Xbox 360 headsets for less than that, which puts it in perspective. It´s wired as well, which isn´t ideal, seeing as you´ll have a long lead trailing across the floor to the sofa. For that price, you’d expect wireless. While a nice touch, the mixer is also bit of a gimmick. How often have you found yourself playing Call Of Duty and wishing you could turn the volume down on your headset to take a call? Wouldn’t you just pause the game instead? Sure, the mixer makes the Rig stand out in a field of identikit headsets, but it feels a bit like a solution in search of a problem. The Plantronics Rig is great at what it does. But to justify the high price you´ll need to spend an awful lot of time not just gaming, but in multiplayer mode with voice chat. If that´s you, this is the perfect headset. The rest of us are better off saving our money.
