This is the very first time that I have reviewed a GELID CPU cooler, but for full disclosure I have reviewed, and still use, their Icy Vision GPU cooler on my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 video card. Like with the GPU cooler the Rev2 Tanquillo´s build quality was good and overall I was happy with my experience with the Rev2 Tranquillo. The Rev2 Tranquillo performs nicely at the lower CPU clocks, and does it silently.
What could be a drawback for some enthusiasts is the Rev2 Tranquillo performance at the extreme overclocks. With the temps coming in at over 80*C with the system overclocked to 4Ghz this is a little on the warm side, but we know that the cooler is not aimed at those pushing their system that hard. At the lower speeds like at the default 2.8Ghz CPU clock the Rev2 Tranquillo does quiet well handling the heat from the Intel Core i7-930, and did so very quietly. Coming in at 59.75*C it beat the stock Intel HSF by a good amount and did so with less noise and without breaking the bank. From a performance standpoint the Rev2 Tranquillo is a nice option for those that want better than stock cooling and aren´t trying squeeze every last megahertz they out of their system with extreme overclocking.
One thing that will be a concern for users who like the tall heat spreaders on their RAM is the 38mm clearance. If you have tall RAM you are going to want to do some measuring.
The upside is that GELID provides a nice measured drawing so the end user can make sure the cooler fits with the rest of their components. Something that would be handy if all manufactures would provide. Some do already, but some do not.
With a little digging I was unable to find the Rev2 Tranquillo on sale anywhere. GELID says the Rev2 Tranquillo will carry a $40 MSRP, this is inline with the current Rev1 Tranquillo price. Would also like to note that in my attempts to find the Rev2 Tranquillo for sale I did find a couple sites that listed the cooler as being for sale. Looking closer is was in fact not the GELID Rev2 Tranquillo part number CC-TranQ-02-A, but rather the GELID Rev1 Tranquillo part number CC-TranQ-01-A even though the site was listing it as the Rev2. So care should be taken when shopping. With the $40 price tag the GELID Rev2 Tranquillo comes in at the middle of the road price wise, and is where the Rev2 Tranquillo performed. The Rev2 Tranquillo also sports a 5 year warranty.
Legit Bottom Line : The GELID Rev2 Tranquillo’s nice looks, silent operation, 5 year warranty, and MSRP $40 price tag make it an attractive upgrade from stock cooling option for those wanting a quiet cooler and not over clocking their system for all its worth.

A 900 grammos fémtömeg az egyenletesen elhelyezett hőcsövekkel még egy viszonylag lassú, és ennek köszönhetően halk ventilátorral is az élen tudott maradni. Szerintünk erre a hűtőre a második lapátkerék teljes mértékben fölösleges, csak az árat emeli, ami amúgy meglehetősen magas, 21 000 forint. Aki a végletekig akar léghűtésen tuningolni, az úgyis lecseréli valami sokkal magasabb fordulatszámúra. Summázva tehát a Noctua NH-D14 különösen ajánlott azoknak, akik léghűtéses tuningcsúcsokra pályáznak, vagy egy nagyon hatékony, de emellett mégis nagyon halk hűtőt szeretnének. Egy kisebb bordával ugyan, de a Corsair is megmutatta, hogy a memóriák és tápok után a processzorhűtők elitjében is számolni kell vele. Az A70 két ventilátorával csak kevéssel maradt le a Noctua hűtési képességei mögött, és lelassítva lapátkerekeit majdnem olyan halk volt. Azzal, hogy egy ventilátorral is kipróbáltuk, lányegében az A50 képességeit is megismertük. Aki nem akar eszelős, 16 500 forintot költeni, biztosan meglesz egy ventilátorral is, és akkor spórolhat négyezer forintot. Felfogatórendszerével sem kellett sokat bajlódni, szóval a Corsair A70 kiérdemli az ajánlott minősítésünket, ha tuningra szánja leendő gazdája. Teljesítményben szoros csatát vívott az egyventilátoros A70-nel a Cogage TRUE Spirit. A hazai piacon ugyan nem találtuk meg, de a környező országokban picivel 40 euro (kb. 11 000 forint) alatt kapható. Annak ellenére, hogy csak egyetlen foglalatra tehető fel (a többihez kiegészítőt kell vásárolnunk), és ventilátorát elég szerencsétlen drót tartja a helyén, nekünk a Cogage TRUE Spirit-1366 tetszett. Akárcsak a Gelid Tranquillo, igaz, azt más szempontból kedveltük meg. Bár a listavezető Noctua mögött rendszerint tíz Celsius-fokkal lemaradt, sokkal kedvezőbb, 8625 forintos ára és nagyon halk működése miatt tetszett. Mai mezőnyünk negatív meglepetése a Cooler Master V6GT lett. Ugyan csak pár ezressel olcsóbb és pár dekagrammal könnyebb a Noctuánál, hűtési teljesítményben mégis alaposan lemaradt mögötte, ráadásul hangban sem jeleskedett. Úgy néz ki, a Cooler Master a V sorozatát inkább látványra, semmint teljesítményre tervezi.

Im Alltagsbetrieb kann der Kühler durch eine sehr leise, durchaus silenttaugliche Charakteristik bei milden Temperaturen überzeugen, die auch unter Last nicht in nervöse oder laut tönende Bereiche kommt. Sogar für ordentliches Overclocking, wenngleich auch ohne allzu hohe Overvolting/Weltrekordambitionen, ist genügend Headroom vorhanden, den man wahlweise für geringere Lautstärke oder höhere Takte nutzen kann. Dieser wird auch zukünftig vorhanden sein, da derzeit die Verlustleistungen gegenüber unserem Testprozessor eher wieder sinken. Der brandneue AMD-Hexacore verbraucht unter Normal- und Overclockingbedingungen sogar weniger Strom als der verwendete Phenom II 955BE im C2-Stepping mit 140W TDP, so dass auch mit den neuesten Prozessoren gute Leistungen hinischtlich geräuscharmer und kräftiger Kühlung auch übertakteter Systeme zu erwarten sind. Der Gelid-Spross überzeugt damit voll und ganz. Insbesondere gefällt der ausgewogene und auch im Preis zurückhaltende, wenngleich selbstbewusste Auftritt, der angesichts der gebotenen Leistung und Flexibilität durchaus angebracht ist. Nicht viele Kühler auf dem Markt können dieses komplette Paket zu einem vergleichbaren Preis bieten. Der Gelid Tranquillo überascht mit dieser Leistung ein wenig, weshalb er durchaus als Geheimtipp gelten kann. Er verdient sich jedoch insbesondere in der Preis-Leistungs Kategorie Lob, weshalb wir den Tranquillo mit unserem Best-Price und unserem Gold Award bewerten.

As part of Gelid Solutions Silent line-up, the implication is that the Tranquillo will be silent. In that respect, the expectation has been met and exceeded. One of the compliments I can bestow on this cooler, is that my son walked into the room and asked what was broken since it was so quiet in the room. Kind of an eye-opener once the white noise of high CFM fans used in air cooling are no longer there. Performance enhancements for the Tranquillo will be limited to adding a higher CFM fan to increase the cooling capacity of this cooler, since running a second fan on the back side is not supported due to its ´v´-shaped design. But then you step away from the concept of the Tranquillo. When the cooler´s performance is compared to other coolers with a similar design, the Tranquillo is slightly behind the curve with its lower CFM silent fan. However, when you look to the results of the stock Intel cooling solution, it is a much stronger cooling solution with about a 25% improvement over the stock solution when overclocked. The fit and finish of the cooler did not show any outward signs of defects or poor build quality. The base plate was smooth but not mirror finished, something I don´t put a lot of stock in anyhow. Mounting the heat sink was no more difficult than any of the myriad of coolers on the market. The base plate fits correctly and the spring loaded screws seem to provide enough tension to keep the heat sink from swiveling around on the CPU. As a larger tower style heat sink, you sometimes run into clearance issues with motherboard components or the system memory. When installed on my MSI Eclipse SLI, the first DRAM slot was made unusable by the installation of the Tranquillo. This is not a problem exclusive to the Tranquillo, as just about any tower style heat sink is going to run into this problem. The most commonly used slots on an X58 board are the 2, 4 and 6 slots, with these still being wide open for use. Priced just under $40, the Tranquillo is a great upgrade from stock cooling to keep your processor cool, as long as you keep the voltages and clock speeds in line when you venture into the world of overclocking.

Der Tranquillo eignet sich ideal für Sparfüchse, die nicht unbedingt den allerbesten Kühler ihr Eigen nennen müssen. Das soll aber jetzt nicht heißen, dass das neuste Gelid-Produkt „Schrott" ist. Ganz im Gegenteil! Unser Testmuster bietet eine ordentlich Kühlleistung bei geringer Akustik. Darüber hinaus können sich auch der effektive PWM-Lüfter und die hochwertige Verarbeitungsqualität sehen lassen. Last but not least wäre da noch der günstige Verkaufspreis von unter 22 Euro.
