The given plant, Solanum tuberosum was grown in the field as well as in petri plants by seeds.The different explants such as leaf, node, internodes, bud and roots were taken for micropropagation. These explants were grown in vitro after thorough sterilization using different PGR in different media composition.The PGR used were 2,4-D, BAP and NAA. Their combination were also used i.e. 2,4-D+BAP, BAP+NAA and 2,4-D+NAA in different concentration.The most effective and suitable media composition was MS (Murashige & Skoog, 1962) basal medium with BAP (2.0 mg/l) for regeneration from nodal explant of Solanum tuberosum.The optimum temperature was found to be 23± 02 oC. The micropropagation occurred more precisely at about 30 (g/l) sucrose concentrations. The most effective photoperiod for the regeneration of Solanum tuberosum was 16 hours light period. The pH 5.7 was considered to be the best for the micropropagation of Solanum tuberosum.

Community participation has become a buzz word in decentralized healthcare service delivery today than ever before. In Uganda, various efforts and initiatives have been put in place to build, enable, empower and promote, as well as supporting private initiatives. Some of these initiatives are voluntary and have evolved to secure resource mobilization for healthcare financing and delivery, and to ensure that the rights of healthcare service users are observed. Community participation should used for the benefit of the entire community. The central and local governments in Uganda should adequately play their "new" role of providing a more conducive political, economic, social and legal environment, favourable for community participation to mobilise resources for healthcare financing, delivery and utilisation. Alternative healthcare financing mechanisms, such as CHF, should be supported by the Government, since they play a great role in providing healthcare services to poor people in rural areas. While ensuring access to healthcare, the rights of healthcare users and providers should be respected by all actors in healthcare delivery and utilisation chain.

This study investigated the anthropometric parameters as well as determined the influence of parental socioeconomic status on the cardiovascular parameters of school pupils. This was with a view to identifying the risk factors and indicators for the development of hypertension in children early in life. One thousand and twenty-six primary school pupils (age range 6-14 years) whose parents gave informed consent from ten randomly selected public and private primary schools in Ile-Ife were recruited for the study. Anthropometric indices (weight, height, body mass index, abdominal circumference) and cardiovascular parameters (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, heart rate) of each pupil were measured. Height was measured with a validated wooden height meter and weight was measured with a bathroom weighing scale. Abdominal circumference was measured with an inextensible tape measure just below the rib cage and above the umbilicus at the end of normal expiration. Blood pressure was measured after ten minutes of quiet sitting with an anaeroid sphygmomanometer and a stethoscope.

The study was designed to evaluate facial asymmetry in skeletal class I, skeletal class II and skeletal class III, subjects using posteroanterior cephalometric analysis. The total sample included in the study was 60 subjects which are sub-divided into three groups of 20 each. The conclusion of the study was: a. Maxillary width was found to be significantly greater in skeletal class II than skeletal class I subjects. b. Mandibular width, lower facial height and mandibular comparison was found to be significantly greater in skeletal class III than skeletal class I subjects. c. Over all left side dominance was present which was not statistically significant.

The purpose of present study was to investigate the role of ADM in early implantation and to understand better the mechanism involved in trophoblast invasion during implantation on uterine endometrium. The present work helped us to have a better comprehension on ADM and ADM antagonistic role. Therefore we demonstrated the importance of endogenous ADM during early implantation and its role in regulation of apoptosis in uteroimplantation development. In accordance to our previous reports it was acknowledged that endogenous ADM plays a significant involvement in reproductive functions and in development of fetus during pregnancy and moreover various studies have shown that endogenous ADM expressions and its plasma levels throughout the pregnancy but there was no particular in vivo and invitro studies by inhibition of endogenous ADM function during day start of implantation and the placentation. On these grounds, the present study was designed to evaluate the involvement of endogenous ADM during implantation and in control of blastocyst proliferation through apoptosis.

Simulation and Modeling is one of the most important and widely used techniques in many research areas. The available simulation tools are mostly meant for standalone use and do not attempt to address the overall scenarios. It would be advantageous and cost-effective to combine these models thus forming a new integrated simulation model based on individual existing components to model complex scenarios and understand the joint effect of multiple phenomena. In this book, we discuss a framework to integrate multiple autonomous simulation models into an integrated environment wherein we can model and execute complex scenarios involving multiple simulators. Our techniques are implemented in RAISE (Reflective Architecture for Integrated Simulation Environments); specifically, we design meta-level synchronizer and data exchange modules that support flexible constraint specification while supporting high levels of concurrency in the execution.

The causes of search failure appears to be, lack of thesaurus, misspelling, mistyping of search terms and problems in understanding the use of Boolean logic. If a veterinarian lacks domain knowledge, when looking for information on a specific topic, the retrieval process can be a real challenge An attempt has been made in this work to study the role of thesaurus in retrieval of Veterinary information. The aim is to grasp in a better way how a thesaurus can help to improve the retrieval effectiveness by using queries generally utilized by the veterinarians. The study suggests the lexical information can be used as a controlled vocabulary to overcome problems with synonymous and lexical variance and its relational knowledge is potentially useful for identifying preferred term and abbreviation etc.,

The main aim of this study to conduct surveillance program of surgical wound infections and to improve surgical practice by surgeons and otherhealthcare professionals. This study describes the results obtained in an epidemiological study of surgical wound infections through an active surveillance program lasting one year in surgical unit of a rural teaching hospital. It is a prospective observational study including patients of surgery ward of Rajah Muthaiah Medical College Hospital who have developed surgical wound infections during hospitalization. Among admissions in surgery ward, 300 cases were screened to have developed surgical wound infections. The most common microorganisms responsible for the infections observed were mainly gram negative and the most commonly isolated were Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli Highest numbers of cases were observed after Wound debridement and Incision and Drainage operative procedures. Among wound Classes, dirty wounds have found to be highest . Superficial incision site infections were highest among other surgical sites. These nosocomial infection surveillance programs of nosocomial infections in rural setting are very rarely

The study looks at the sffectiveness of credit managemnt in salected mission hospitals in Kenya. It looks the four credit managent functions:Terms of credit, credit analysis, collection procedures and monitoring accounts receivables. Mission hospitals experienced very high levels of receivables making it difficult to operate.The study used the quantitative-descreptive research method of research.A pilot study was conducted to test the overal reliability and validity of the gathering tool.The research covered mission hopitals spread accross Kenya to help determine the effectivness of credit management.The study established that monitoring accounts receivable ratest highest and need s to be improved for better perfomance.Managements of accounts recivable remains a big challenge to mission hospitals. The study found out that there is need to work closely with institute of credit management to help set guidelines for effective management.

This book assesses the correlation between cardiac ischemic score and coronary collaterals and to provide an alternative treatment option, in patients with ischemic heart disease, who are not suitable for conventional revascularization therapies. Coronary collateral circulation maintains myocardial perfusion in coronary atherosclerotic disease. The indicators of cardiac ischemia, like (Angina pectoris on exertion, during emotion, previous myocardial infarction, prior coronary intervention), are associated with presence of coronary collateral circulation in different studies abroad. The study correlating the coronary collaterals and the indicators of cardiac ischemia was not performed in Bangladeshi population and hence this study was carried out here. This prospective observational cross sectional study was carried out in department of Cardiology, BSMMU from January 2007 to December 2008. A total of 128 patients with angina pectoris and or MI and or previous coronary intervention undergoing CAG and PCI were included in the study.

Research evidences suggest parental engagement links positively to children's achievement. The use of new technologies to enhance parents' engagement with their children's education are hailed as good practice around the world especially the deterministic belief that modern technologies will enable 'hard to reach' or less engaged parents to play active role in education of their children. However, the impact of complex intersecting classed, racial, and migratory identities and the colonial legacy on minority group's ability to use new technologies to participate in education is rarely studied. Paradox of Food Insecurity (FI) with plenty of Food has been found in Orissa, India, like any other part in World. Investigating into the causes, we found that - Entitlement failure rather than Food Availability Decline is the detrimental factor of Food Deprivation in Orissa. This has supported the arguments of the Nobel laureate Amartya Sen (1981). Public support through Public Distribution System (PDS) could have reduced FI but its' poor designing, implementation & functioning left the poor in the cold. The household data collected from field exhibits - PDS could not reduced FI substantially, mainly due to meager amount of entitlement of rice, higher subsidy in sugar and existence of targeting errors (both Type I & Type II errors), which has led to inefficient income transfer. PDS provides only around 11 percent of the monthly per capita consumption to the surveyed households. Hike in the issue prices of PDS ration has cascading effects in reducing the household's expenditure on food, cloth, education and health substantially. But given the weaker demand side; a well-designed PDS is necessary in the state. The book will be useful for researchers, academicians & policy makers.

As a transitioning society in the developing world, Morocco has made significant changes to achieve equality between sexes in labor market. This book, therefore, discusses women's work and documents their efforts to trespass the private sphere to the public one. However, they are faced with gender based discrimination and stark inequalities impeding their true socio-economic development. Based on a field work, this book suggests that there are four generalizations which can be made about women's participation in labor force, especially among women in primary schools in Fez. First, there are various reasons behind their engagement in labor market as a traditionally male dominated sphere. Second, many women suffer from unequal gender division of labor. Third, women's participation in labor market has not changed their traditional gender roles. Fourth, women face different gender based disparities: occupational segregation, unequal pay, gender division of labor, to name but a few. The analysis should be useful to researchers,professionals, policymakers and anyone else who may be considering dealing with gender issues in relation to labor force.
